Primary

From the Primary Office

Our Primary staff are so excited that students were able to return for our last week of term 3. They "can't stop the feeling" of excitement and just want to "dance dance dance" and share it with their students and families!

It was great to welcome back all our students and staff onsite after what has been an incredibly successful period of Quality Distance Learning. Whilst we have shown great resilience during this time, nothing beats being back at school with our friends and peers. Even though we started this week as the last week of term, for most it felt like the start of a new school term.

Considering the current climate, we have made the decision to send home student devices over the upcoming holiday break. If we end up in a lockdown at the start of Term 4, all students will be able to access the QDL program.

Considering these devices are the property of the school, we ask that you store these devices in a secure place over the break. A genuine rest from using technology over the break is highly recommended for our students and families. We thank you for your ongoing support and hope that you have a lovely holiday.

We would like to wish all the Primary families a well-deserved break. We hope you enjoy some family time and great weather. We look forward to welcoming back all students on Tuesday 5 October.

NAPLAN Results

This week the School received the results for this year’s National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). We are very pleased with the Primary (Year 3 and Year 5) results for Reading, Writing, Grammar and Punctuation, Spelling and Numeracy. Not only did the students outperform other schools in the state, but statistically similar school groups as well. The students should be congratulated for the way they conducted themselves throughout the testing period. We appreciate the time our teachers spent on making sure our students were well prepared and calm in their approach to these tests. Individual student results have been shared with respective families. Any questions need to be directed to the classroom teachers in the first instance.

Meerkats Performance

To complement Book Week which was scheduled earlier in Term 3, the students will enjoy the upcoming online performance by Meerkat Productions in the first week of Term 4. Whilst this performance was meant to be live, we are grateful that we can still enjoy the performance albeit through a screen.

The performances are based on the books listed below and we hope that students enjoy them through their creative interpretation of the novels. Teachers will prepare the students before the performance and follow up with some activities around these engaging texts.

Your Birthday Was The BEST! by Maggie Hutchings and Felicita Sala will be performed for Kinder to Year 2 students.

Aster's Good, Right Things by Kate Gordon will be performed for Year 3-6 students.

Lost Property

The number of lost property items in the Primary School is increasing on a daily basis. A timely reminder to clearly label uniforms so that lost items can be returned to the owner as soon as possible. If your child is missing anything, please encourage them to come to the office at the start of Term 4 so that we can hopefully re-trace some of their belongings.

Jump Rope for Heart

Not even a lockdown could stop Year 5 fundraising for the Heart Foundation through their participation in Jump Rope for Heart.  They have raised $4186.  Congratulations on an amazing effort Year 5!

Kinder  Seasons

This term the Kinders explored the different seasons in their Science lessons. They looked at different types of weather in each season and animals you would see during that time of year. The Kinders then chose a season and made a diorama of the season they investigated.  Following are some photos of their work.

Year 3 Travel Expo

On Wednesday both 3Z and 3B along with Mrs Zweck, Miss Briggs, Mrs Scott and Mrs Deller packed their bags, ensured their passports were up to date, received a travel exemption from Scott Morrison and jetted around the world (in a COVID safe manner). During QDL the students researched a country of choice and this week presented a travel brochure or poster. Some students brought country-specific music or even some local delicacies (for the teachers to taste). The classes travelled as far as Greenland and Iceland in the North and Chile in the South, with many countries in between across all the continents. The students enjoyed the annual Travel Expo and look forward to safely travelling around the world in 2021.
