Tuning In
October is Mental Health Month and the theme this year is Tuning In.
Here are some Tips to Tune In and ways that we encourage these at KWS:
- Be playful – Having fun is an essential ingredient for wellbeing and can reinforce information learned in class
- Move joyfully – Students were lucky enough to return to cocurricular sport last week, reinforcing the importance of physical health for overall wellbeing
- Be curious about yourself – Senior School students are learning about empathy this term during Wellbeing, which involves better understanding yourself so that you can understand others
- Take time to rest – Taking time to recharge our batteries means that we can channel our energy into the things that we care most about
- Practice self compassion – With many COVID restrictions still in place, including mask wearing at school and limited gatherings, it is important that we give ourselves a pat on the back for how resilient and adaptable we can be in our everyday lives
- Wear something that makes you feel like ‘you’ – Self expression is important in building identity so it is important that students feel comfortable to embrace their personal style on weekends and after school
- Do something creative – Using different parts of the brain is helpful for developing mental agility
- Ground yourself by connecting to the earth – Junior School students are visiting our Windermere campus each week or fortnight
- Connect with friends – After a tumultuous period of coming in and out of lockdown, students and staff are enjoying connecting with friends face to face
- Notice your boundaries – Setting boundaries can be difficult, but are hugely beneficial in the long-term, and prevent things like burnout and fatigue
