The Arrowsmith Program

WAYNE STAGG

Head of the Arrowsmith Program

I started the Arrowsmith Program in Year 7 after struggling with dyslexia and auditory processing problems through my primary years. Well, actually my whole life!

During those years, I found reading, spelling, listening to the teacher and learning to tell the time frustrating. I was tested and was too smart for funding, but I still needed help and support which was hard to find. I was falling behind. Through friends, we found out about the Arrowsmith Program and thought we would give it a go. And, thank God we did!

During my time here, I have gained so much. I am keeping up with my Maths and English, passing my exams and I am much happier than before.

For me personally, it is the hard work and confidence I have gained that has seen me finally succeed. I used to give up on sports, even though I love sport.

Also, school work was difficult and I didn’t have the capacity to keep going. I could not have been able to stand up in front of you all and speak in front of people if it was not for the program.

Recently I sat a test to enter SEDA sports academy and passed with 100%-an achievement I may not have been able to do without the help of the Arrowsmith program and the support of the extraordinary teachers.

This has been my Arrowsmith journey.
