Changes in Curriculum

New Elective Line for Year 8

2020 saw the introduction of an elective line in Year 8 where students were able to select two subjects for each semester.  The students were able to choose between Italian, Drama, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and English Workshop.

The School is able to offer this Elective line as students at Moama Anglican Grammar meet the minimum hours for languages (Italian) in Year 7.  What this means is that students who wish to continue Italian can, but students who would not usually pick Italian as an elective in Year 9 are able to try other subjects including Drama and STEM.

The STEM elective allows students to do practical based activities in the area of Science and Technology, building their skills for later years in these areas.  Drama is a subject that is offered at the School and can be studied in the HSC.

Structural Changes in English

Similar to Mathematics, the School this Year has blocked English classes for Years 7-10.  This means that all students in a Year group are timetabled to have their English classes at the same time.

Having English blocked at the same time allows for flexibility within the English classes as the School is able to cater for the individual needs of each student.  To this end, we are able to better manage extension activities and group activities across the classes as well as being able to better manage the distribution of teacher aides.

Further, the flexibility in this blocking of classes will also allow students to move between classes during the Year to better cater for their individual needs.

English in the past has attained some outstanding results in the HSC.  The English Faculty currently has 4 HSC Markers including the Head of Faculty Mrs Vanessa Bush, Mr Greenwood and our current English Extension teacher Mrs Joanna Hughes.  To have 4 HSC Markers at Moama Anglican Grammar is a fantastic opportunity and success for our School.

The results in last year’s HSC showcased the excellent academic standards the students at Moama Anglican Grammar can achieve.  We are very proud of our HSC results and believe that the above opportunities for students will help continue our students’ success and continue to provide an ‘inspiring education for students to achieve their best’
