From the Deputy Principal

There is a lot to celebrate at Moama Anglican Grammar.
It was a day last week that I witnessed a multitude of activities here at school that reminded me about how much we have to celebrate here at Moama Anglican Grammar.
We were welcoming a student teacher to the school and I had to accompany her to Jack Eddy oval. Whilst there and on my journey back from Jack Eddy oval I had the opportunity to watch a number of classes making use of the opportunities our teachers are creating for them using the wonderful facilities available to us.
At Jack Eddy oval Ms Bennett’s Year 10 Physical Activities and Sports Studies class were learning the skills to coach our Primary school students for their Athletics carnival – an example of one of the activities we are able to arrange being a Kinder to Year 12 school.
As I walked past the Moama Play Park Ms Tara-Lee Moon was conducting a photography class there and I chatted to students aiming to get that great artistic shot using the architectural design of the play park structures.
I then walked past the back oval where Mr Darcy Hall was facilitating a very exciting game of Softball. I watched as the students cheered and supported each other in trying to make a home run, all students working together in a game that they do not often have the opportunity to play.
On to the grassed area beside the UCA and there was Mrs Felicity Williams' class investigating the science of “rocket launching” using bottles of water and a bike pump. I enjoyed hearing from the students about what they were doing and marvelling at the great hands on learning that was taking place.
From there I walked to the Primary school and on the way there, stopped for a moment outside the music room to hear some really cool tunes and some great student collaboration happening in Ms Ellis’ Music class.
By the time I arrived at the Primary school it was lunchtime and I enjoyed participating in some animated conversations with students from Ms William’s and Mrs Cowin’s classes on the “amazing” (the student’s word, not mine!) things they are learning in class, how the Primary students use “Open Roads” to solve problems and how to have a sustainable lunchbox with no plastic wrap what so ever! I also received some very welcome fashion advice on how my outfit would have suited a shorter necklace rather than the longer one I was wearing.
There is a lot to celebrate at Moama Anglican Grammar and not just within our school grounds…….
On Monday last week I had the privilege of attending the Echuca-Moama Sportstar of the Year Awards. Moama Anglican Grammar students were a prominent feature of the night with 4 of the monthly winners across Junior and Senior finals for 2019 being Moama Anglican Grammar students! Jayda Richardson was the Junior June finalist for her success in AFLW football, Isabella Crossman was the Junior September finalist for her success in Tennis, Claudia Mawson was the Junior November finalist for her success in Netball and Chase Costello-Manning was the Senior December finalist for his success as part of the Veris Racing (Cycling) Team. That these students were able to be so successful in their respective sports whilst successfully completing their studies at school is yet another reason to celebrate at Moama Anglican Grammar.
Opportunities to support our wider community is something that Moama Anglican Grammar seeks out. In the past many of our students and teachers have been involved in Johnno’s Run. This is an annual fundraiser for our local Community Living & Respite Services that has been happening since 2014 at the Run Melbourne event in July. This year the funds raised are going towards the Opening Doors Project and many of us from Moama Anglican Grammar will be lacing up our runners to hit the pavement in the next few months, training to do Johnno’s Run and supporting this great cause. You will find more details in this newsletter.
To finish, thank you to all the students, teachers, non-teaching staff and families who make our school one to celebrate.
