News From the Principal

Dear Families,

As we look back on Term 3, we begin to realise how many exciting events happen in our school on top of our daily routines. Some of these have included:

Sports – Netball, Soccer, Cross Country, Book Week, Excursions including, Art Gallery, Zoo, other schools, Canberra Trip, Walkathon, Aboriginal Performance, School Photos,  and many others.

Thank you to all the staff and parent volunteers that have supported our programs throughout the term.

Staffing Information

I would like to congratulate the following staff who have won permanent teaching positions at Largs Bay from next year.

Leana Romeo, Travis Clinton & Karla Santoro.

Congratulations also to Bob Bowden who has won the Deputy principal position for the next 5 years.

Class Placements 2018

Early next term, we will begin our class placement process for 2018.

With over 560 children next year, this is a complex and time consuming exercise, as we take into consideration such things as mix of students, composite and straight classes, boy / girl ratios, friendships, educational and social aspects, class size, to name a few.

Our teaching staff are very experienced at placing students based on these and other factors.

If you have any special requests or relevant information, I ask that you put it in writing to me, no later than  Wednesday 18th October. Please note that this does not include specific teacher requests.

While requests will be taken into consideration when planning, it is not always possible to meet all of these.

Thank you for your on-going support.

Outstanding Achievement Awards – Term 3

At the end of each term, two students from each class are nominated by their teacher to receive the Principal’s Outstanding Achievement Award. The winners can be found in this newsletter.

Congratulations to all of them on such a successful term.

Term 3 Outstanding Attendance Award

I am very pleased to announce that we had 22 perfect attenders for Term 3.  I would like to congratulate Sharlene T from Room 4. As the winner, Sharlene takes home a $30  voucher as well as the Outstanding Attendance Certificate for the term.

Rock and Water Parent Session

Wednesday 18th of October @ 3:30pm-4:15pm

Largs Bay School would like to offer parents and caregivers the opportunity to participate in a Rock and Water session next term. Our students have been involved in this program for the last two terms and every class has had three sessions.

The parent session offers adults with children at Largs the experience of the program and focuses on raising their own self-awareness, their role as a parent and their role in the school community. Language, messaging, strategies and new found skills are outcomes parents can translate into the daily lives of their children.

The workshop offers:

  • Practical anti-bullying strategies
  • Alternatives to aggressive verbal and physical responses
  • Better ability to be in control through grounding, centeredness and mental focus
  • Increased self-respect, self-control and self confidence
  • Enhanced resilience skills and well-being
  • Skills to identify and monitor reactive behaviour patterns

The workshop exercises promote:

  • Communication skills
  • Development of compassion, understanding and sympathy
  • Boundary setting, simple self-defence and communication skills
  • Awareness of purpose and motivation in life
  • Intuition, mental strength, empathic feeling, positive feeling, thinking and visualising

Enjoy the Break

On behalf of all the staff, I hope you enjoy the break with your children and we look forward to seeing everyone back safe and well next term.

School resumes on Monday 16th October.

I will be on leave for the first 2 weeks of term and Bob Bowden will be acting Principal during this time.

All the best

Mike
