DISCOVERY COMMUNITY CHURCH - BLITZ!

A team of volunteers from Discovery Church were involved in a 'Backyard Blitz' on Saturday 5 September.

There were approximately 175 people involved, many were 'tradies' others were simply church members with amazing community spirit.

Between 7.00 am and 4.00 pm seating was built, painting and mulching completed and many donated natives were planted in many of our garden beds.

On behalf of the school community I would like to express our thanks and gratitude to this wonderful group of people for improving the environment for our students and showing us all what can be achieved by a dedicated and caring group of people.

Thank you also to the following businesses that provided assistance, construction and donation of supplies for the day;

  • Leisure Timber and Bellbird Building Supplies provided the materials
  • Mobile Skips provided 2 "green waste" only skips
  • RP Evans Constructions built the fence
  • Yarra Ranges Recycling Services provided the mulch free
  • Axis Homes and M W King Pty Ltd were the two builders who designed and over saw the building of the seating

MARKET DAY

Market Day is a much anticipated annual event that is part of the Year 11 Business Management curriculum.  The students develop a business plan and follow through to implement their business that becomes a part of the market.

'Sassy Sandwiches', 'Scooped' and 'Green Eggs and Bacon' were some of the business names.  All profits are donated to charity.

The students did an amazing job not only on the day but in the lead up and also by raising over $4600 in profits!

SEPTEMBER SOIREE

On Wednesday evening I had the pleasure of attending the September Soiree at Yarra Glen. What a talented group of musicians we have here at Lilydale High School! There were students from across the year levels playing instruments and singing either as a solo act, duo, band or group.

Congratulations to Amy Cumming our Instrumental Music Coordinator for organising such a wonderful night.  Thanks to the students and staff involved and to the parents who we always enjoy seeing at these events.

Special congratulations and thanks to Emily and Kayla for their spirited hosting of the evening.

SCIENCE DRAMA PERFOMANCE

In my last report, I wished the students involved in the Science Drama Performance and Awards night all the best as they travelled to Canterbury Girls' College to participate in the finals.

I'm pleased to announce that our talented troupe of actors and support crew WON the competition and can now claim the title of State Champions.

Thanks to Drama teacher Helen Nicholas who was script writer and director of the show and to teachers, Phil Carr, Emma Pippos and Mark Matcott who were support crew on the night.

BUNNINGS VISIT - ZOO KEEPERS

In the lead up to Father's Day our  Zoo keepers took a number of Reptiles to Bunnings in Chirnside Park to engage with the public.  This was at the request of Bunnings.

The students demonstrated great communication skills as they interacted with members of the public.  Marcus Whitby, the teacher in charge,  was able to hand the whole show over to the students who did a exemplary job in representing Lilydale High School.

END OF TERM 3

As the term draws to a close I'd like to take this opportunity to wish the school community a happy and safe holiday.

Term 4 begins on Monday 5 October.   I look forward to seeing everyone back and ready to learn.

Special mention to our Year 12 students who will be participating in many holiday classes and individual teacher consultations in readiness for their upcoming examinations.
