French Trip 2018

Our planning for this exciting trip during the last week of term 3 and the September school holidays next year is really starting to take shape. After discussions with Clonard College, we have decided to combine forces! By doing this, we hope to increase the number of students wishing to participate, making the trip more viable and less costly!
We have decided to combine the best of both schools’ itineraries and this has resulted in a varied and fascinating program.
The itinerary has not yet been finalised but we expect the trip to last for 18 days with the first week spent in and around Paris. We will visit the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Louvre, Sacré Cœur, Montmartre, the Musée d’Orsay, the Champs Elysées and the Arc de Triomphe and will spend time admiring these world-famous sites, shopping and strolling through the beautiful streets. We will take a cruise along the River Seine, visit the incredible Palace of Versailles and marvel at Monet’s garden in Giverny. There may even be time for a trip to Parc Astérix, the famous French theme-park. After our stay in the most visited city in the world, we will head North to the historical city of Rouen, the capital of Normandy, and the beautiful coastal towns of Étretat and Honfleur.where we will learn about Joan of Arc, walk through picturesque, mediaeval streets and explore the chalky coastline.
From Normandy, we take the TGV (France’s high-speed train which travels at speeds of over 300km/h) down to France’s second city, Lyon. Many people prefer Lyon to Paris because it has all of Paris’ charm without the hectic pace. It is here that students will stay with a French family for several days gaining many insights into everyday family life. During the day they will discover the beauty of this city, visit local parks and museums on themes such as the Lumière brothers (the inventors of cinematography), the silk industry, the Roman foundation of the city two thousand years ago and the deportation of Jews during WW2. Lyon is the gastronomic capital of France so there will be lots of delicious treats to try and a cooking class where we will make macarons or choux à la crème! Miam miam!
After our stay in Lyon we head into the French Alps and are treated to some of the most picturesque countryside France has to offer. Our destination is the beautiful city of Annecy, renowned for its cobbled streets, winding canals and pastel-coloured houses. On our final day we travel a short distance to Geneva in Switzerland with its famous Lake and UN Headquarters before heading to the airport for our flight back to Australia.
