Yr 11 Drama: Pop-Up Globe

By Leah Nicholls (Yr 11 Drama teacher)
Shakespeare like it’s 1614!
Pop-up Globe, the world’s first full-scale temporary working replica of one of the greatest theatres in history, the second Globe, has popped up in Melbourne.
The Year 11 Drama students had the pleasure of visiting the Pop-Up Globe on Monday to see 'Much Ado About Nothing'.
From our first moment in the Globe, we were greeted by Dogberry and Verges, the 'policemen' of Messina where the play was set. Before the show had even started they had the audience dancing and singing, they even invited one of our students, Hayden, to join them on stage!
'Much Ado About Nothing' is a Shakespearean comedy that tells the tale of love, hate and mistaken identity. We were thrown straight into the world of Messina with actors wandering through the audience, interacting with the 'groundlings' and delivering an incredible Shakespearean performance.
While each of the students had varying degrees of Shakespearean knowledge they all came out of the show raving about it and planning their next visit.
The Globe is an experience like no other - it must be seen to be believed!
