ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS' REPORT

BOOKLISTS & STUDENT RESOURCES FOR 2017

Campion Education is again the booklist provider for McKinnon Secondary College. Booklists for 2017 will be provided to students in the coming weeks.  Families will again have the option of placing an order then collecting books and stationery from our Gym - this has proven to be a very convenient option for families.

Students undertaking Year 11 or 12 in 2017 may place an order to be collected from our Gym on Monday 12 December 2016. The December collection option will assist students to complete holiday homework. Students in the senior school should complete their booklist orders online by Monday 21 November.

Students in Years 8 - 10 in 2016 can place an order online for collection from the Gym on Friday 27 January 2017.

We encourage families to select the prepackaged school-collection option, as it is more convenient; details and cut-off dates for orders are on the booklist itself.

In a number of areas the College has moved to online resources to replace texts for 2017 - we are using Edrolo as an online textbook replacement in Year 12 Biology, Psychology and Business Management; Language Perfect in all German and French classes, plus Maths Pathway in Year 7 Mathematics. These resources are paid for via parent financial contributions, rather than via the Campion booklist. We are excited about the powerful learning opportunities provided by these resources, and pleased they are cheaper for families than many of the printed texts used in previous years.

EXAMS

All students in Years 9 - 11 will be completing exams in the coming weeks. It is critical that all students begin their revision early, seeking support and assistance from their teachers with concepts they find difficult. Success will require students to set high expectations for their performance, to work hard and to take pride in their work. We encourage all students to review carefully their teachers’ feedback on Learning Tasks (via Compass) to identify areas for improvement.

UNIFORM

Please ensure your child continues to come to school in correct uniform at all times. Facial piercings such as nose studs and eyebrow piercings are not acceptable - students will be asked to remove such piercings on-the-spot, prior to attending class. We expect students to wear the uniform with pride and it is an important part of our school culture.  Please note: Blazers are optional in Terms 1 & 4; however, when travelling to/from school, students wishing to wear an outer garment must wear the blazer (rather than the College jumper).

BUILDING FUND

In recent months many families and former students have made generous donations to our tax-deductible Building Fund. The College plans to use such funds to support the next stage of our redevelopment of the College’s teaching facilities. This next phase of construction will see new Science laboratories, general purpose classrooms and senior study centre replace facilities built in the 1950s. Further information about our building fund - including diagrams from our architects H2o - can be found on our website at http://www.mckinnonsc.vic.edu.au/p/building-fund.html

On behalf of all staff and students of McKinnon Secondary College, we sincerely thank all those who have contributed to our Building Fund and the future of our school.
