A Message from Lisa....

Welcome back to Term 4

Term 4 is always very busy and there are lots of organisational things happening throughout the term. This term we are looking at grade structures, 2020 dates and of course grade lists.  If you have any requests for next year, please ensure your requests are in writing and received no later than Friday 1st November.  Please understand that I cannot take requests for individual teachers.

2020 Start Dates

Last week, school council approved the following start dates:

Tuesday 28th January - Staff return

Wednesday 29th January - Grades 1 - 6 commence

Monday 3rd February - Preps start school

Year 6 Canberra Camp

Students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Absenteeism

Being absent or regularly late to school has a huge impact on student learning.  The Department of Education considers up to 12 days absence per year to be acceptable. So far this year our average absences are 15.9 days and 21% of our students have been absent more than 20 days. 20 days is equivalent to 4 school weeks or 100 instructional hours.  When considering extended family holidays please consider the impact this has on your child's learning. If you are considering an extended family holiday please call the office and make a time to meet with me.

New Playground

The new playground has been a highlight for our students this term.  Thank you to the preps for writing amazing letters to our school council.
