My First Week at Killester - Student Reflections

Dona Thoppil - Year 7 St Rafka

On our first day of the week it was challenging because it was a new system to learn and we didn’t know anyone, but we soon made friends thanks to the orientation day. We started to get more comfortable at Killester. Our lessons were great with no homework. We were just  getting to know our teachers and our new classmates. And finally on the 5th of February, we all got our new macbooks which were the color orange. We learned how to email and access the student portal. Overall it has been an awesome week and we all look forward to the rest of our years at Killester.

Mia Curtis - Year 7 St Hildegard

After my nerves, anxiety and trepidations settled on the first day I was ready to start. When I had my first class I was so nervous, but as soon as I walked in the door all the nerves went away because all the teachers and students were so welcoming. It felt like I was at home. By the time I finished my classes it felt like I had been there for some time.

Karyna Ngo - Year 7 St Maria Goretti

Starting high school was the first time I have felt so many emotions at one time! Excitement about starting Year 7, anxiety about what the homework would be like and if I would make any friends, and so many more. But I realised I didn’t need to be anxious or scared, because everyone at Killester was welcoming and friendly and I had a great first day.  Many people had trouble with using a combination lock for the first time but everyone felt comfortable enough in their homerooms to laugh about it. When someone couldn’t open their lockers, no one was shy about asking for help. When classes started, I was a bit lost… schedules can sometimes be confusing but I know I’ll soon get used to it! I think that Year 7 at Killester will be full of fun learning opportunities and everyone will make new connections with new classmates!

Lunchtime Activities for Year 7s

School has just started and the Year 7s are just getting to know their teachers and classes. As you might know, they can feel lonely and confused on the first few weeks of school as it is a new environment and place to get used to. We, as Year 8 leaders, have gathered together to plan different lunchtime activities for them; such as trivia, kahoot, board games, puzzles and many more. These lunchtimes can help them get to know other Year 7s in their year level as it can also make them feel more comfortable.
