Science News

At the end of last term four Year 6 students were selected to represent Burrendah in the Interschool Solar Car Challenge. The competition was conducted by Synergy and STAWA. Races were held at Rossmoyne High School.

All Year 6 students constructed solar car in the lead up to the completion. The selected team on the day of the completion was given materials required and 1 hour to construct, test and modify their design. A series of heats and finals were conducted before a winner was declared.

Cars needed to be durable as well as fast to last the whole morning of races. Our team constructed an amazing car and earned third place in the competition against ten other schools. Congratulations to all team members.

Term two learning experiences in the Science Lab will focus on Earth and Space Studies. Year 6 students will be carrying out research on volcanoes and constructing models that demonstrate how their chosen volcano erupts. Year 5 students will be looking into space and will be exploring our solar system. Year 4 students will be delving in some geology with a focus on rocks and minerals. Year 3 students will be looking at our sun and its position and importance to us on Earth. Year 2 will be investigating our precious resource of water. The Year 1 students will be focussing on the weather and changes that occur.
