A message from Leon

Womenjika to the first issue of Dhumbajirri for 2020.

It has been great catching up with many families, staff and children over the first couple of weeks at school.  Students seem to be settling in well.

I would like to extend a special womenjika to our new Foundation students and their families.  I hope that our partnership will grow stronger as we all work together to support your child.  We also have a number of new families who have children in other year levels.  We also give a special Womenjika to you.

2020 will see a focus in three main areas:

  • Improving Literacy-particularly Reading and Writing.
  • Continue to embed a culture of safety and wellbeing for all students.
  • Empowering students to be engaged in the learning process.

Friday February 21st will be our second Curriculum Day:

We have a number of new strategies for staff to work through around student wellbeing.

These include:

  • Respectful Relationships
  • Safe Minds

We have a number of guest speakers working with staff.

School Council

Elections have begun this week.  I would like to recognise the work of the 2019 School Council and thank each of them for their support.  Parents/carers can either self-nominate or nominate someone.  We have the following vacancies:

  • 2 x 2 year positions
  • 2 x 1 year positions

Nominations close at 4:00pm on 26th February.  I will advise the school via compass about elections.  School Council is an important body that supports the Principal in the strategic direction of the school.  School Council also has a key role in policy development and financial accountability.  If you have any questions about School Council, please feel free to speak to any of the 2019 Council or myself.

Huge thank you of appreciation to Elissa and Fin for all their behind the scenes work as part of leading Social Committee and Communications Teams at TPS.   They have both been involved in many events which have raised thousands of dollars for the school.

“It has been a great way to meet many families and feel involved as a community. We are proud of the way the school has improved over the years we have been chairing these committees”

Our school relies on fundraising money to continue to improve our buildings and grounds. We hope the Social Committee continues to grow with new families join in to support our school fundraising events as organisers, volunteers and promoting the events.

There are current vacancies in Social Committee and Trivia Night Coordinator
