Two SPS Teachers Accepted Into The Victorian Academy In 2023

We are very pleased to announce that two members of our staff have been accepted into the Victorian Academy in the Teaching Excellence Program - English for 2023.  Big congratulations to Shantelle Bellingham and Jordyn Whittington. They applied for the highly sought-after position last term and were both successful.

The Teaching Excellence Program is a 1-year program designed to advance professional knowledge and practice for highly skilled teachers from Victorian government, Catholic and Independent schools. The program builds teaching excellence through a focus on disciplinary knowledge, practitioner inquiry, responsive pedagogy and dispositions for exceptional teaching.

Jordyn and Shantelle will be attending seminars throughout the year, and will be working on a whole-school project at Scoresby PS over the course of the year. It is a fantastic opportunity for both teachers to be part of this program and we wish them well in their studies.

New Playground

Our new playground will be installed on Friday 16th December. PFA funds have been put towards this project.  We would like to thank our wonderful PFA and our school community for their hard work in fundraising. Over the past few years it has been hard to get some events off the ground, but the 2022 PFA has been fabulous this year with online meetings, many people helping out and a very positive vibe in all that they do. We look forward to more PFA events next year.

All members of our school community are welcome to join the Scoresby PS PFA team. It’s a terrific way to meet people and get involved with school events. Inquiries can be made via this email  address pfa@scoresbyps.vic.edu.au

Art Awards

Congratulations to the following students who were recognised at the annual Scoresby Secondary College Art and Technology Showcase for 2022.

Scoresby Secondary College representatives came to our assembly last Thursday to present the awards and prizes. It’s testimony to the Scoresby PS Art Program, and we saw a very proud Mrs Coster standing in the wings with a big smile, as each student  was called up at Thursday’s assembly. Congratulations one and all!

Plans For 2023

Writing

In 2023 we will be focusing on deepening our understanding and teaching practice in the area of  writing, with the mindset to improve student outcomes, while also promoting a love of writing.

We are once again working with the Differentiated Support for School Improvement (DSSI) team. This brings two Leading Teachers back into our school to work with school leaders and staff in a curriculum area.  DSSI worked with us in 2021, and they will be doing a range of work with all teaching staff. DSSI will assist in planning sessions, demonstrating lessons, observing teaching practices and running regular professional learning for staff.  It is a wonderful opportunity and we can’t wait to get started.

Maths at home

Next year we are planning to build a stronger connection with families and Maths. Becoming numerate for children is a long-term journey, and there are many skills to master. We will be focusing on targeted games, skills practise and the understanding that children need multiple exposures to concepts so that they can embed their knowledge and understandings.

There will be parent forums focused around Maths and how you can help your child at home. We hope to see many of our families at these sessions in Term 1.

As the year draws to a close…

At this time of year, we all naturally spend time reflecting on the year that was.  As we know too well, this year has brought its own set of challenges as we returned to full-time, face-to-face learning.  It took a while for the year to get back to normal running speed.  We are immensely proud of, and grateful to, our Staff for the committed and generous care they provide our students, and the care and support they provide each other. We have seen their strength, flexibility and resilience challenged this year, but their unwavering support of our students and their compassion and care, has helped get them through this year successfully.

To our parents and caregivers, we are so grateful for your support, and the encouragement you have given our Staff throughout this year. We greatly value our school community and look forward to building stronger connections and ties with you next year.

Finally, to our students. You are simply superstars! You have all worked hard to achieve the goals set out for you. You have participated in many events this year and have had the privilege of being the students who were at Scoresby PS as it turned 150 years old. That’s something we hope you remember for many years to come.

Below is a snapshot of some of our fun events this year...Harmony Week, Book Week, School Production , National Child Safety Week, 150th celebration and camp. It’s been a BIG year!

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of the SPS families and community a very Merry Christmas. We hope you get to spend some valuable time with your nearest and dearest, and those most special to you.

We look forward to seeing everyone back at school next year on Monday 30th January.

Take care, stay safe and have a lovely summer break.
