Angus Haines at Australian Open

Our very own Angas Haines proudly participated at the 2023 Australian Open as they celebrated the world's longest living culture on First Nations Day with a packed program of art, food and performances, on Wednesday 18 January 2023.

The day was a packed program of art, food, and performances. Seven-time Grand Slam champion Evonne Goolagong Cawley and three-time Grand Slam champion Ash Barty participated. A 14-member First Nations ballkid squad was selected from across the country which included Angas Haines. Aunty Joy Murphy AO, Wurundjeri Senior Elder, said the day was going to be fantastic. Tennis Australia supported the Uluru Statement of the Heart and aimed to continue working closely with Indigenous communities to honour First Nations sporting heritage. Activities and performances included a traditional Welcome to Country, dance and storytelling, live art demonstrations, First Nations tours, and Culture on Court. First Nations art, culture, and food were showcased through installations, a mural, a digital storytelling experience, and a pop-up restaurant.
