Principal's Message

Diverse ~ Accepting ~ Inclusive Community

Dear Parents, Families and Friends,

Welcome to the 2023 Academic Year.

The staff prepared themselves last week for a successful school year by attending a day long restorative practices session on Friday. Almost half the staff also committed a day of their holiday to an extra short course run by Flinders University on Central Australian Aboriginal Cultures and Context. I’m grateful for the dedication and willingness of staff to improve on their practice and enable us to use a common and consistent language with our students.

It’s been a great start to the year and I’m especially grateful for our Year 12 students that went above and beyond to make the Year 7 students feel welcome and settled in a new school environment. We’ve endeavored to set the standards high and make our expectation clear to the students from the very beginning. Parents can assist us by making themselves fully informed of our uniform and jewelry policies that start on page 11 of the school diary. There are also a range of communication options through the school diary, Schoolbox or emails if there are any questions or concerns.

Our theme this year is “Knowing, Caring and Connecting with HEART.” A big thank you to parents/carers and their families that made an effort to attend our welcome breakfast this morning. It’s opportunities like these that enable us to be better acquainted with the people that are an integral support for our students. The better we know each other the easier it will be to connect and care for your student.

Please have a look at the Ex-Activities on offer and sign up using the online eForm in Operoo. This is another wonderful opportunity to broaden friendship circles and develop new skills and interests for your child. Also, next week there is a parent afternoon tea and information session for Follow the Dream on Monday and a Year 12 Parent Information Evening on Tuesday 7 February at 5 pm. Come and meet the Year 12 teachers. The Senior Creative Industry students will depart on Wednesday for an Art Trip to Melbourne and on the same night is the Parents & Friends AGM at 6 pm in the Feed Me Now Restaurant. Please come along and be involved in the many activities of the College.

The Schoolbox App will enable you to keep up to date on the many activities that are happening every day. It will also give you important information about your student’s homework, upcoming assignments and due dates. Staff will also post marks from assignments with comments. So if you haven’t downloaded it yet, may I suggest you do as soon as possible.

It’s going to be a wonderful year if we all do our part to keep the communication lines open and support and respect each other in a meaningful way. I’m very excited to be part of the leadership team and promise to do my very best to improve the wellbeing of everyone on this campus.
