Japanese

This week in Japanese:

Welcome back to 2023 Japanese!

It was wonderful to see many students greet me in Japanese on the first day, and it was lovely to see that many students remembered the words and phrases from last year too!

We are so excited to start our Japanese program for 2023. Our language program at Monty aims to foster the growth of global citizens with awareness, empathy and curiosity about other languages and cultures. We do this by building basic skills and awareness of Japanese language and culture. We hope this will provide a foundation and inspiration for students to continue their exploration of languages and cultures into the future.

Research shows that language learning:

•            Enhances literacy skills

•            Improves memory and brain function

•            Helps develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills

•            Fosters respect and understanding of other cultures

•            Creates employment and career opportunities

•            Enhances travel experiences

And, it is fun to learn a language and culture!

We have started the term by learning about New Year. Being the year of the rabbit, Year 1 and 2 made a great effort writing ‘rabbit’ (usagi) in Japanese, and Year 5 and 6 have started their own Ema writing (wishes for the new year).

Looking forward to the year ahead!
