State Tennis Finals

On Thursday the 16th of November our Year 8 Boys and Year 8 Girls tennis teams travelled to Boroondara in Balwyn to compete in the SSV State Tennis Finals.

The boys' first game was to be against Albert Park. Unfortunately their bus didn’t arrive and they had to forfeit the first match to Trinity.

The second game was against Lalor Secondary College, which was quite a close match, with Trinity eventually coming out on top 5 sets 22 games to 1 set 14 games.

Our last match was against Lavalla Catholic College, which we won 4 sets 20 games to 2 sets 9 games. We finished top of our pool and this put us into the state semi final against Bayside P-12. They had some top quality, seeded players, and proved too strong for our Trinity team going down 5 sets 20 games to 1 set 8 games. Bayside went on to become the State Champions.

Our girls had convincing wins over McKinnon Secondary College 5 sets 20 games to 1 set 9 games and against Catholic College Sale 5 sets 22 games to 1 set. They lost their second-round game to Aiken Secondary College, 5 sets 21 games to 1 set 6 games. This positioned them second in their pool and put them into the cross over semi-finals. They played Surf Coast Secondary College, which was a very competitive and hard-fought match they lost 4 sets 19 games to 2 sets 14 games.

The team they lost to in the rounds, Aiken Secondary College, went on to be the eventual State winner.

We were very proud of the performances of our boys and girls throughout the competition. To finish 4th in the state is a fantastic achievement. However, we were probably even more proud of the way they conducted themselves on the court. Both teams were respectful of opposition players, congratulating them on good shots, engaged them in conversation and enjoyed their tennis games.

The boys team consisted of Hayden Desmond, Xav Cooknell, Hartly Ganim, Bailey Driscoll and Blake Middleton.

The girls team consisted of Mia Compton, Poppy Holland , Tyarna Westlake and Eliza Speirs.
