Developing Good Habits
Strategies you can use at home to support your child to read more:
- Talk to your child about your own reading; newspapers, books or magazines
- Make the space and time for reading routines, such as reading for 15 minutes after dinner each night. This routine also encourages the formation of study habits.
- Read aloud to your child, maybe one of your favourite books when you were younger
- Borrow books from the Colac library to role model book selection and book discussion
- Expand your home library collection. The Colac opportunity shops have secondhand books and the Colac library has cheap cancelled books. We also have Cowlick bookshop for the latest in new books
- Provide books or book gift vouchers as presents to encourage reading
