Junior School Report

Junior School News

Term 1 has been a very busy term and we are very proud of how students have gone about their learning, engagement and assessment tasks this term. Term 1 Interim reports will be available in the last week of Term 1. We encourage families to read over them with students and contact staff on compass should you have any questions.

Junior Interschool Sport / Fair Go Sports Athletics Carnival

Many Junior teams have recently represented Reservoir High School in interschool sporting competitions throughout Term 1 including many students swimming in the District Swimming competition, Cricket, Volleyball and Tennis.

Congratulations to all Junior School students who participated in our Fair Go Sports Athletics Carnival recently. It was fantastic to see so many students dressing up in house colours or multiple colours and supporting the cause of inclusiveness for all. Well done to all students who competed to the best of their ability or simply cheered and encouraged their peers. Another fantastic Fair Go Sports Day celebrated by the whole school community. The Athletics team will now be selected to compete in the Darebin Athletics Carnival mid way through Term 2.

Year 7 Peer Support

All Year 7’s have been participating in our Peer Support Program during Health classes in Term 1. The students have been very fortunate to have a very committed group of Year 10 Peer Support Leaders assist them with positive transition experiences and relationship building activities with each other. The Year 7’s have really enjoyed the opportunity to be mentored by our Year 10’s and the Junior School would like to thank all of the Year 10 Peer Support Leaders for their fantastic efforts and leadership to our Year 7 students.

Lunchtime Clubs

It has been terrific to see so many Junior School students involved in clubs around the school each lunchtime. Students are reminded that the Lunchtime Clubs program has been up and running since the start of Term 1 and all students have the opportunity to participate in them. The schedule is located on the Junior School Notice board in F Block and on Compass.

Impact Classes

The Junior School emailed all students and families at the beginning of this term about the value of our Year 7 and 8 IMPACT which runs for one period every fortnight.

It has been developed to create opportunities for young people to explore who they are as learners and individuals, how they relate to others and how to plan for their future.

To create shared time across cohorts to engage in learning that foster 4 key elements of student development -

  • connectedness,
  • learning habits,
  • pathways planning and employability skills
  • respectful relationships.

Key Themes over Year:

Respectful Relationships

Gratitude

Coping Skills / Emotional Literacy

Perseverance / Resilience

Respect – Kind, Safe, Fair

Conflict Resolution

Bullying / Cyberbullying

Self Regulation

Consent

Pathways

So far in Impact this year, all Year 7 and 8 students have had input into our School Wide Positive Behaviour Matrix, enjoyed Emotional Literacy and personal Character strengths. Learnt more about One Drive and how to set up their one drive folders and enjoyed a whole year level workshop by the Darebin police on Bullying and Cyber bullying and strategies to combat it while keeping safe online.
