Year 7 2023 – First Week of Secondary School

Congratulations to our Year 7 students on an amazing start to secondary school. Students participated in Keys to Success activities designed to help them understand the college’s CORE values and motto: 'Belong, Believe, Become'. Students also learnt about our School Wide Positive Behaviour approach and how we use Teams and OneNote for learning.

Student reflections below!

Year 7 has been a great journey so far and a big step from primary school. We were given our lockers and laptops and are getting used to all the breaks and the amazing canteen. We are even playing soccer with the Year 9s at lunchtime.

All the subjects are renamed which is very good in a way because you have different perspectives on all the different subjects. I have really felt like I have fitted in to the school and I am making new friends every single day from my GOAL group to my class. The teachers have made it fun to learn, we have played icebreaker games and learned about the school rules and values.

When coming into the class we are greeted with a nice warming smile by every teacher. The buildings even look amazing, from the multipurpose pitch to the classrooms it feels like you’re in a multi-coloured wonderland. The start to Year 7 has been great and I wonder what other wonderful curve balls it will throw at me?

The first few days of Year 7 have been an amazing way to start our high school journey. It felt different to have a lot of teachers and to be moving around the school so much but I feel fortunate to have two siblings at the school to help me find my way. At first, I didn't see many familiar faces, but I soon found my friends and made many more. My locker was a challenge, but I figured it out and now can do it with ease. After the two-day orientation, we started classes. I was so nervous to start at Beaumaris Secondary College, but after the first three days I am excited to say that I feel like I belong to our school. I am looking forward to the year ahead, especially the Year 7 camp at Lord Somers.

I suppose that we were all nervous for the first day of high school, which was kind of a comfort in some weird way. In the first few days we have been going over rules and how the school works. Most of us have got lost at least once or twice rushing around trying to find our classrooms. Everyone has been very kind and welcoming. This has been especially nice for people like me who don't have any friends here from their primary school. I can't wait until we start learning and get to do our sports program!

I've had a great three days at Beaumaris Secondary College. The staff and students are very friendly and are always helping us find our classrooms. It is also worth mentioning the impressive new facilities and the grass oval. The school also has a basketball court and soccer pitch. As a high school student, I couldn't have asked for more in a high school. Beaumaris Secondary College is a great high school and I am very lucky to be a part of it.
