The Year That Was

2022 has been an extremely memorable year in so many ways for both you and your family.

After two years of working under restrictions beyond our control, not only have we been able to attend school on site for the entirety of 2022 but we were also finally able to enjoy a whole school evening with all members of our school community coming together to celebrate our music program.

The students were so excited to be able to share their singing and dance moves to their families as they performed in our amphitheatre in a wonderful, party atmosphere.  Our rehearsal was enjoyable enough but when the students arrived in their costumes, the excitement and atmosphere was electric.

What a wonderful way to celebrate the conclusion of our full year back at school!

Student Achievement

We have been extremely thrilled with our student achievement this year.  Despite the many weeks of Remote Learning our student achievement results have met our set goals and, in many areas, exceeded our expected targets.  This is a credit to our whole school community including both staff and families alike.

NAPLAN is only one data set but it reflects our teacher judgements and that of the standardised test results our children complete.  This challenges the notion that our children as a whole have been disadvantaged by remote online learning as the results clearly indicate otherwise.

Our NAPLAN results were extremely pleasing in Years 3, 5 and 7.  An added bonus is that we are now able to monitor our students’ growth even when they are in their first year of secondary school. The Year 7 data provides us with an overview of the final two years of primary school.   Our school achievement level is well above state-wide benchmarks and equal to, or above similar schools and our network schools.

Victorian schools delivered the curriculum remotely more than any other Australian state and the NAPLAN results of 2022 reflected the outstanding teaching and learning that occurred.

Student Agency Team (SAT)

Our Student Agency Team have certainly used every opportunity to exercise Student Voice this year and I would like to thank Mr. Angus Ross and Ms. Naomi Holt for leading our SAT Team so effectively.

A big congratulation to the Student Agency team for their commitment throughout the year at Beaumaris North Primary School.

The 2023 Student Agency Team (SAT) began this year by conducting a whole school student survey. These questions were collated by the Student Agency Team and students worked together in groups to analyse student feedback and take- action where possible.

Students have continued to regularly meet as a team, feeding back their ideas and views in many different aspects of our school community. Within these meetings, the students have met with different members of our school, community, including a school council member, wellbeing committee, canteen and uniform shop. During these meetings they have shared their ideas and viewpoints representing and being the voice of students at Beaumaris North.

An overarching goal of the team this year has been fundraising to support the parents club, raising money for our school playgrounds. These fundraising events have included termly ‘Hot Chip’ days and the ‘Cruffin’ fundraising day, which was supported by the incredible donation of Bromley Breads.

Alongside of this, the team voted to also raise awareness and money for the Royal Children’s Hospital with our ‘Pyjama and Teddy’ day.

As we complete 2022, we would like to thank all members of the Student Agency Team for their regular commitment of meetings, sharing information at school assemblies, visiting classes with updates of events and through Compass to our school community.

Treehouse Graduation

What a wonderful year of learning we’ve had this year in the Treehouse. We celebrated with a Graduation Ceremony in Week ten, where the children received their Graduation hats and Treehouse folders.

Wellbeing and Inclusions

Throughout 2022 a variety of whole school initiatives were implemented based on the information gleaned from our student survey results.    I would like to sincerely thank Mrs. Jess Patane and Ms. Sheridan Duffy-Fainu’u for leading our Wellbeing and Inclusions Team this year.

  • Wellbeing Week - ‘Respect’ (Respectful Relationships)
  • Whole School National Day Against Violence and Bullying “Kindness Culture” Day
  • Introduction of Zones of Regulation
  • New Whole School Behaviour Management Policy
  • Introduction of the Bungalow with both indoor and outdoor Lunch Club
  • Therapy Dogs – Wally and Frankie commence at BNPS
  • Specialist Lunch Clubs (Library, Drawing, Mandala, Origami, Media Club, Maths Games etc.)
  •  Update Child Safe Policies and Wellbeing Page on website

Our Wellbeing Captains have met regularly with Jess and have done an incredible job supporting wellbeing initiatives this year.

School Council

I would like to thank Kristy Hamshare and Adrian Panozza who will complete their service to our council this year.

I would like to sincerely thank Mrs Kristy Hamshare for fulfilling the role of School Council President since 2021 and for being an active member for several years previous.

Adrian has joined council in recent years and has always participated in a positive and supportive manner.

Thank you, Kristy and Adrian, for your ongoing commitment and support throughout your time on school council.

Year 1 Excursion To Werribee Zoo

Our Year 1 students enjoyed a lovely day at Werribee Zoo on December 1 and we hope you enjoy this special video of the day.

End Of Term 4

As the school year draws to an end it is time to reflect on the exemplary achievements of the school year.

The academic achievements is one thing but the human achievement is another unique success.  Throughout the school year our daily attendance figures have been greatly impacted by both students and staff alike due to the ongoing Covid situation and the inevitable infections due to increased social interactions after so much isolation.  Our team-teaching approach, together with the support of our CRTs, has enabled our teaching and learning programs to continue without any interruption.

I would like to sincerely thank members of our parent community for supporting the many changes that occurred throughout the year.

Our students managed seamlessly, regardless of what teacher was in the room at all times. The students are to be commended on their reconnection with face-to-face learning and as the year progressed, so too did their relationship building skills as many had to re-discover these after many weeks and months of remote learning.

Your children are a credit to you as parents and I do hope you are very proud of how far they have come this year; I know every staff member of BNPS is extremely proud of every child in their care.

It is almost time for the demands of school to disappear for 5 weeks of school holidays.

I wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas and I hope that this festive season is a time for your family to reconnect and enjoy time together.

Regards,

Sherril.
