Monday 24th April: normal school day, first day of Term 2

Tuesday 25th April: ANZAC Day Public holiday - no school

Wednesday 26th April: Return to school 9am

This is our final newsletter for Term 1 and I would like to say a big well done to all of our students for their efforts this term, particularly to our Foundation students who have achieved a milestone by completing their first term of primary school.  It has been a busy term, with events such as incursions, Year 3 & 5 students completing NAPLAN, cross country and house athletics, the presentation of our Year 6 Leaders, and election of our Student Representative Council (SRC), school photos, inflatables and the opening of our multi-purpose field, to name just a few.

Next week is our final week of Term 1, and we begin the week with our whole school assembly on Monday at 9:15, which includes our SRC badge presentation.

Thursday is our last day of school and starts with the Easter Parade at 9:15am, our students will parade their hats in the gym from 9:15am.  This is a great opportunity for families to work together with your children and put together a creation, or just dust-off last years!  If you are short on inspiration, there are plenty of websites to help you out.

Here are just 2 examples to assist you:

The parade also includes the drawing of our Easter Raffle.  I would like to thank all of our families who have contributed to our raffle through donating items or by buying tickets. We have lots of eggs-cellent prizes to be won, and some of our student leaders will be selling tickets at the office from 8:45am and 3:15pm each day next week.

Our last day of Term 1, is Thursday 6th of April. All students will be dismissed at 2:30pm, after watching Clyde TV.

Harmony Day

Last week we celebrated Harmony Day and students learnt about cultural diversity,

inclusiveness and respect.  It was so fabulous to see many of our students proudly

wearing their traditional cultural clothing or orange clothing to signify meaningful conversations, freedom of ideas and mutual respect.  Please see photos on the Harmony Day page of this newsletter.

School Leaders' Report - by Jack, Dihya, Cass and Hadi

On Wednesday, the School and Vice Captains attended a Leadership conference at Bunjil Place.  We had the opportunity to listen to a few motivational speakers, and hear their journeys in various leadership roles.

We also heard from other primary schools and how their student leaders have had an impact on their school in a positive way.  We look forward to sharing the ideas with our Year 6 Leaders and SRC, to implement our own ideas back at our school.

2023 School Council

Our School Council consists of 13 members made up of staff and parents. After the nomination process earlier this year, I am pleased to announce the members of our 2023 School Council, who met for the first time last Monday.

President: Jenny Maypiece

Vice President & Treasurer: Kylie Williams

Secretary: Sharon Diehl

Sarah Bannister              Amelia Smith                          Courtney Goodman

Steph Harrip                    Simone Armstrong                Karlie Suttie

Lee Russell                      Sue Lumley                             Michelle Mackenlay

Being a member of the school council is a rewarding and challenging experience.  Acting as a team, our School Council supports the principal to provide the best possible educational outcomes for students.

Attendance-Absence Learning Plans

Student Absence Learning Plans should be implemented to support the education of students who are absent from school for an extended period.  If you are planning on leaving on a family holiday for more than 3 days, a Student Absence Learning Plan will be completed by staff and provided to parents before they go on leave.  This provide students with work to complete whilst they are away and ensures that students are still learning whilst away.

If you are planning a family holiday, please inform your child’s teacher in writing at least two weeks before leaving.  This gives staff the opportunity to prepare the plan, resources and meet with you to discuss expectations prior to leaving.  It is an expectation that work tasks completed will be given back to staff once you return from leave so the school can approve the absence.  If you have any questions regarding attendance please speak to your child’s teacher or Hayley Taylor our Wellbeing Leader.

Canteen News

The last day of canteen and lunch orders for Term 1 will be Thursday 6th April and our lunch orders will return for Term 2 on Thursday 27th April.

Breakfast Club News

With the cooler weather approaching, there's nothing nicer than a warm breakfast to

warm us up, and I am delighted to announce that our Breakfast Club program will extend to 2 mornings per week in Term 2.  Thanks to our regular parent helper volunteers we will run Breakfast Club on Tuesday and Friday mornings in Term 2.

ANZAC Day

Term 2 begins on Monday 24th April, which is when our school will commemorate ANZAC Day at 12:30pm in the gym.  Families and friends are welcome to attend our school service.  On this day students will also participate in activities to understand the importance of ANZAC Day and the service men and women who have served our nation.  Please note ANZAC Day is the following day, which means students will not attend school on Tuesday 25th April.

To commemorate ANZAC Day our school leaders will be selling the usual poppy merchandise at school throughout the last week of term, next week - prices starting at $2.00.  All donations will go to the RSL.

Curriculum Day

Next term we will be having a Curriculum Day on Friday 2nd June. No students will attend on this day.  If you require care for your children on this day, Team Kids will be running a full day program.  Bookings for this will open early next term.  Our staff will be using this day for assessment and reporting.

And finally, a reminder to parents that all of our previous newsletters are available on our school website https://clydeps.vic.edu.au/

Have a great Easter break everyone!
