The Gardening Club presents this week's Leadership Report

We would like to give a huge shout out to the amazing Lisa; one of our talented teachers and the facilitator of the Newlands PS Gardening Club. Lisa has managed to qualify Newlands for the 2023 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant. The grant awards schools up to $1000 of funding to engage children in sustainable food production, waste management and enhancing native habitats. Thanks Lisa!

Dear Families,

The last week of term is everybody’s favourite and it's not because the countdown to holidays are in single digit numbers, but because it is Cultural Week. It is such a fun way to learn and practice our Spanish while learning about a specific Spanish Cultural event, country or celebration. Ohhh! The other great reason? We always finish off with a fun and exciting assembly with dances and presentations. Please remember that these celebrations start at 1:30, as we finish school at 2:30.

I would like to thank all the teachers for all the extra work they have put in over the last few weeks collecting data to ensure reports are true and accurate. There is no doubt that this period is a stressful time or teachers, however, it also presents an opportunity to celebrate the successes of their students and the impact they have as teachers. As you already know, reports were sent out to families yesterday on SENTRAL. Interviews will take place over the next week. If you haven’t done so already , you need to book an interview time on SENTRAL as soon as possible.

Monday is our main day for Parent/Teacher Interviews, but this will also be our Cultural Week launch. This term our focus is on the Argentinian ‘Murga’. Monday looks to be an exciting day of food, dance, storytelling and performing for the students. Due to the multi-age activity event, interviews won’t be taking place in your child's classroom. Please refer to the timetable and map below for the location of your interview. If you need assistance, please contact the school or visit the front office.

The F/1 Ninja Kids excursion has been the hot topic on the Newlands playground this week. Students were involved in a range of courses that were a mix between the classic show Gladiators and Australian Ninja Warrior. Students had to do flips, climb  and complete other crazy obstacles. I am not sure what the Australian Ninja Warriors ratings are like, but we can foresee decent Newlands Primary School representation if the show still exists in 2035.

The 2/3s have finally finished their dioramas. The students have been working on these for a few weeks now to coincide with their information reports about conservation and what would be considered an ethical zoo. It has been such a fantastic inquiry topic this term which has linked further with their excursion to Werribee Zoo.

The 4/6s have continued to develop their financial literacy this week. The students were given a modest $175 dollars to purchase dinners over a 6 day period for a family of four. The students have had to ensure they were nutritious meals that met the dietary needs of their family members. The students were using Coles and Woolworths catalogues to find and compare the best deals for extra bang for buck. A massive congratulations to the 4/6s for their Spanish Information report presentations. The quality of work and how proudly students presented their reports was so impressive to see.

We have one week left of Term 2, have a great weekend and we will see you next week!

Thanks, Luke
