Research has found that when children read extensively they become better writers. It also helps them become more aware of some of the issues, ideas and facts about the world around them.

Reading a variety of genres helps students learn text structures, vocabulary and language techniques that they can then transfer to their own writing.

Reading can also serve as a wonderful source of entertainment as well as help reduce stress.

At Kingswood Primary School, teachers across the year levels encourage students to read a wide variety of books regularly. While many students adopt a regular reading routine during the school term, it is vital that they continue to read throughout their school holiday breaks.

With the school holidays quickly approaching, it is time for students to start getting their holiday reading organised. There are several ways to do this:

Kingswood School Library allows all students the ability to borrow 2 books for home, and 1 to keep in the classroom. Students need to make sure they do not have any overdue books, so they can borrow 2 books for home. Here is the link where you can search what books we have in our school library:

Readings is a wonderful website with many children’s book reviews for all ages. Click on this link.

Reading Time is from the Children’s Book Council of Australia and has wonderful reviews of selected children’s books. Please refer to this link.

Kingston Libraries or any other public libraries, are a great place to borrow books or online books for free. Please refer to link below:

With just 2 weeks until the school holidays, I hope these links and information can help you, to help your children’s reading progress.

Happy Reading!
