Sustainability

Add an extra item to your shopping list

Adding an extra item to your shopping list can bring hope and smile in someone’s family this Christmas.

It is that time of the year again to come together and help the Salvation Army with their Christmas Appeal. Every year the Mount Waverley Salvation Army provides morning breakfast to students at Brentwood and gives them an opportunity to participate in the Friday lunch program at their headquarters.

It is upon us to give back to the Salvos by donating generously to this year’s Salvos Christmas Appeal. A list items accepted include: non-perishable food items, toys, gift hampers. Please send your donations to our college library before 10 December.

Old Textbooks Recycling

A huge thank you to all families that donated old textbooks to support the ‘Give A Textbook (GAT)’ foundation. GAT Foundation is a not-for-profit charity that actively distributes old textbooks by promoting sustainability and environmental awareness through re-homing books within communities in Australia and the Philippines.

National Recycling Week

Three students from the Year 11 Product Design class designed a new recycling station using recycled materials to mark this year’s National Recycling Week. The recycling station is designed to collect old pens, markers, used batteries, old mobile phones and soft plastics. They are sent to various recycling facilities.

Students have been challenged to trial bringing ‘waste-fee lunch’ during this week.

RSS Progress Workshop

The ResourceSmart Schools Progress workshop for Term 4 was held at Brentwood on 13 November. 40 teachers from various schools in the Eastern region attended the workshop and worked on different modules of the RSS program.

The Brentwood Green Team shared our progress and achievements in sustainability with the participants before taking them on a tour of the college.

Brentwood is a three-star ResourceSmart School.
