Lawn Bowls Gala Day

The Monash Division Lawn Bowls Gala Day was held at the local Glen Waverley Bowls Club. This was fantastic for Brentwood as we were able to begin the day with a brisk walk to the venue. Each school were able to enter 12 teams of 3 and being a large school we had more than this express interest in competing. Some schools did not fill their quota and Brentwood were able to have 17 teams!

The day began with a skills session run by Laurie Browell from Bowls Victoria and members of the Glen Waverley Bowls Club. There was a lot of enthusiasm and a hive of activity over the three bowls greens as the students perfected their skills and increased their knowledge of the game.

After the morning skills session students were ready for round one. Each game saw the teams play 6 ends with a complex scoring method. The student’s powered through the first game quite quickly.

After a short lunch break, round 2 began and this time all the competitors were a little more relaxed and social. Students got to know their fellow opponents and the game was quite social. It is not often our students have the time to have a quality conversation and get to know their opponents. It also helped that mobile phones were not allowed on the greens.

We had two official rounds planned for the day and Laurie from Bowls Victoria asked the students if they wanted to play a third round and there was an almighty cheer from all schools. A very positive response for Lawn Bowls!
