From our Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

I hope you enjoy this week’s edition of the St. Peter’s College Newsletter.

State Election

As most would be aware the State Election has produced a number of key policy directions and promises. The Catholic Schooling sector has not been immune. Both of the major parties have committed to a $400 million dollar injection of funds for infra-structure projects. Both of the major parties have also pledged significant funds to support one of our next building projects on our East Campus for which we are very grateful. For further information and an analysis of the pledges from both parties please see below.

Presentation Night

This night celebrates the culmination of the academic year and more importantly acknowledges the outstanding achievements of many of our students. Our awards night has changed shape somewhat this year. More emphasis has been placed on the academic awards from a year level perspective. A student in each subject from Years 7 - 11 be awarded an academic excellence award. A student from each year level will then be awarded an overall dux (the best performed academic achiever). The house spirit, St. Peter’s College award and the various other leadership awards will round out the evening. Parents of the successful recipients will be contacted in the next few days and invited to attend. The venue this year is Bunjil Place in Narre Warren. We look forward to a wonderful evening.

Staff Changes

Building Update

A number of exciting projects are either near completion or about to commence:

Landscaping Project – East Campus

This project has been an ongoing one for the majority of this year. Nearing completion the central courtyard or piazza will be the central gathering place for students. The tiered seating will enable assemblies or concerts to be held. The centre-point will become a focal point of liturgy and prayer. At the commencement of the 2019 academic year the hope is that all temporary fencing and pathways will be removed and each of the learning centres will magically connect

Arts Precinct – West Campus

Commencing January 2019, this $2.75 million build will connect the Florence Williams building and the Breen building to produce a dynamic, flexible and state of the art learning space for the visual arts

Stage 6A – Hospitality/Food/Music/Drama/Dance

Commencing in January 2019 this will provide much needed specialist learning spaces. It is Stage 1 of a three stage build which will also house an Arts precinct and Theatrette as well as a basketball stadium. Stage 6A is due to be open for classes at the commencement of the 2020 academic year.

There is indeed a lot to look forward to.

Wishing you all the best for the week ahead.

Mr Chris Black
