R.I.S.E. values
This week the Secondary School had the opportunity to see a drama production called The Flipside. It explored the concept of cyber bullying and the effect it has on individuals. The production was designed to stimulate the students into thinking about how what they do might influence others through the use of social media.
It is reminder of what we are taught in the Bible on how to treat each other. Jesus teaches us to love each other unconditionally. This is reinforcing the school’s RISE values, with the R standing for respect. It doesn’t matter what our background is, or that of others. We are called to respect each other. The principal of respect applies as to all members of the school community. As a teaching staff we need to lead by example, and our example is set for us by Jesus. For me respect is the core we start with.
Then there is integrity. In everything we do it is essential that integrity is demonstrated. In today’s society people look for the quickest shortest way to complete a task. This does not necessarily mean it is the best way. As a school community we embrace best practices, whether it be in finance, a receptionist, a teacher right through to the Head of Schools, integrity is at the fore front of all we do. Again, we expect the students to show the utmost in everything they do. Knowing that a student has shown integrity will bring respect from their peers, a quality worth aiming for.
The last two, service and excellence, speak for themselves. I remind students that as teachers we are in the class to serve them, and as we serve them, they should look for opportunities to serve others. I would encourage students to take every opportunity to serve within and outside of the school.
And do everything with the utmost excellence. This does not mean that they will be an ‘A’ grade student, or the best sports person, but it does mean they have put their absolute best into what they are doing.

Year 10 Geography
As part of our Year 10 Geography unit this semester students have been looking at aspects of the coast; including coastal features and processes, how humans have impacted the coast, and how they can help manage it.
Friday 17 May turned out to be a beautiful day for them to head to Port Elliot, Middleton, Goolwa Barrage and Goolwa Beach. The purpose of the day was for students to explore and measure some of the topics we had discussed in class in a more “real” context.
As always, it was a great day to appreciate part of Australia’s amazing coastline, get outside the classroom and to soak in some sunshine before the cold officially hits!

Agriculture
This term the Year 7 and 8 Agriculture class has been busy planting seeds in the hot house for their vegetable gardens. This week they had the opportunity to plant these seedlings out into their garden patch. Prayerfully the class will produce some nice produce including snow peas, sugar snap peas, radish, soya bean, leeks, onions and a number of other vegetables.
