A Fortnight in Review

It has been great to see the oval full of students at recess and lunch times enjoying the beautiful weather.  AFL and soccer seem to be the sports of choice; this is great practice for the upcoming SAPSASA and SACSA sports carnivals.

Well done to Miss Wrogemann’s Year 1 class for taking out the Uniform Award on Wednesday during assembly.  It was wonderful to also watch the Year 1s leading assembly; I especially loved the devotional on David and Goliath, well done class!

It is fantastic to see students at school early and enthusiastic about the day ahead.  Can I just remind parents that students will not be supervised by a member of staff until 8:15am.  If your child arrives earlier, they will be asked to wait in Student Services until the morning duty commences.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

As a school, we recognise the importance of communication, particularly with your child’s class teacher, and value your input and partnership.  It is also important that staff respond to communication in a timely fashion.  However, if a message (email or Dojo) is sent after hours, please do not expect an immediate response.  The staff member will do their utmost to respond upon their return to school.

Eden Baker is a Year 6 student at Tyndale Strathalbyn.  She is raising money to support RUNtoRED to ‘Rescue, Empower and Deploy’ people living in desperate need.  While we have missed the event date, it is still a wonderful initiative and can still be supported.  If you would like to contribute to this wonderful cause, a monetary donation would be very warmly received.  If you decide to donate please place the donation in an envelope and pass it on to the School’s Administration staff with ‘Run to Red Fundraiser’ on the front. Thank you.

Over the last two weeks, individual classes have ventured out on excursions.  The classes and venues have included:

  • Year 3 – Strathalbyn Museum (HASS)
  • Reception and Reception/Year 1 class – Belair National Park (Cubby Building)

There are a number of other excursions and incursions planned for later on in the term, so stay tuned.

During the week, Murray Bridge and Strathalbyn staff engaged in a Professional Development session.  This was aimed at providing staff with more information to assist students who have been exposed to varying degrees of trauma throughout their lives.  It is becoming increasingly important for staff to broaden their understanding and have tools to more confidently assist students with their learning in the classroom.

Finally, congratulations to the Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students on completing NAPLAN, it was a wonderful effort.

Take care.

Cubby Building extraordinaire!

The Reception and Reception/Year 1 classes travelled to Belair National Park to test their skills in building cubbies. The children worked together in teams to build a cubby for a small creature before moving on to building a cubby that the children could eat their lunch inside. They discovered that building cubbies is not as easy as it looks! However, with imagination, persistence and team work, they created some amazing structures. Some of the cubbies even had their own mailboxes and clothes lines.
