Pursuit of Excellence
As a Christian school we are pleased that the new Federal Government’s majority in the Lower House and support in the Senate secures a political landscape in favour of freedom of religion. This is a fundamental right that all democratic countries need to preserve if they are to guarantee religious tolerance for their people. Religious freedom underpins most of the other freedoms that we enjoy. Western Civilization was built on the foundations of Biblical truth and values emanating from the life and teaching of Jesus.
I draw your attention to page 4 of last week’s Courier newspaper for a major article by our Head of Schools, Mr Mike Potter. Mike is arguing that “dramatic action needs to be taken to protect children against the harm caused by early exposure to pornography”. The article is seriously important reading for every parent, educator and anyone working to enhance the well-being of children.
In line with the theme of Mike’s article, we are planning to invite Mr Brad Huddleston, technology expert and world-acclaimed speaker on cyber safety, for a return visit to Tyndale Strathalbyn early in June. Stay tuned for a possible parent evening if it can be arranged.
In the theme of cyber safety our primary and secondary students experienced brilliantly presented dramas last week. Two young professional actors from Victoria, under the banner “Brainstorm Productions”, inspired and instructed us all in the complexities and imperatives of being safe on-line. They did this through an excellent dialogue. I was delighted with our students’ participation and insightful questions.
On Wednesday afternoon this week our teachers and support staff, joined by Tyndale staff from Murray Bridge, were entertained and inspired by an outstanding presentation by clinical psychologist Colby Pearce. The focus was on working with children who have suffered some kind of trauma in their lives. It was an excellent, interactive opportunity to gain deep professional insights into the needs of children and how we can help them to learn in a loving, positive, kind and safe environment.
A number of our staff were at the Goolwa shopping mall on Thursday and Friday last week to promote our school. We want parents in our region to understand our heart, what we have to offer their children academically, socially and spiritually and to welcome them to our forthcoming School Tours on Thursday 30 May.
Lastly, in regards to school uniform, we are proud of our Tyndale uniform. I have asked staff to encourage and supervise an excellent standard of uniform presentation by their students. Please check the uniform requirements for your child(ren) as listed in the 2019 student diary (pages 17 – 20).
Blessings,
