Carnival

Combined Primary Schools Touch/Netball Carnival

On Friday, 25th October the Boorowa Showground was a hive of activity with 431 teams participating at the annual Touch and Netball Carnival with approximately 4300 children competing from 49 schools participating on the day. This meant 26 courts and 27 fields continuously occupied for 19 rounds (each 20 minutes in length) of continuous play.

Participating schools came from all different directions including Canberra, Queanbeyan, Braidwood, Goulburn, Temora, Cootamundra, Young, Murrumburrah, Binalong, Bowning, Wee Jasper, Rye Park and of course Boorowa which provided a kaleidoscope of colour from uniforms and shade shelters. A truly impressive sight.

The day was warm, windy, dusty with a sprinkle or two of rain, all of which provided a challenge for shade shelters and people alike. Despite this all students played with smiles, enjoyed the opportunity to be a part of such a large event  and at the end of the day many children, teachers and parents left saying “Thank you for a great day,” and that they would be back again next year.

The Carnival is not possible without the co-operation of both the Boorowa Central School, and St Joseph's School, both School P&C’s and many parents and friends. Many hours are spent in preparation for the Carnival, as well as on the day! Both schools are very grateful for the support given to us by the local secondary students who were on duty all day assisting in many roles as refs, umpires, ground officials, coffee maker/sellers and general helpers. Without their support the day could not run as efficiently as it does.

Special thanks to the Hilltops Council for all their assistance, Boorowa Community Bank, Boorowa Recreation Club, Boorowa Rugby Club, Rotary Club of Boorowa, Netball NSW, Touch NSW and the many Boorowa community members who volunteered to help with car and bus parking and  line marking and a special thanks to all the barbecue cooks, canteen workers and those who provided First Aid.

Each year our school’s successfully cater for the huge occasion thanks to the P and C’s and as a result our two schools benefit financially. So please put 23rd October in your diary for next year and get ready to roll up your sleeves and pitch in again when the crowds descend.
