Year 9 have been YAMming!

For the past three weeks, Year 9 students have been participating in the YAM program, Youth Aware of Mental Health, an evidence based program which is aimed at addressing the mental health needs of young people, using discussion and role plays. With 70% of mental health and suicidal behaviours beginning in young people between the ages of 12 and 25, the Black Dog Institute has helped to cover the cost of the course at Boorowa Central School, to ensure our students are better equipped to manage their own mental health and to support and help others in need.

YAM trainer, Jenny, commended our students on their thoughtfulness and ability to support and empathise with others, during the three sessions.  We hope they will use their new found knowledge to support others in the community and be aware of what they can do for themselves if they feel overwhelmed and challenged.
