Infants and Primary

Primary Learning

Once again we find ourselves at the business end of a very busy fortnight of learning experiences here at Boorowa Central. We began the fortnight with a fantastic Bush Poets visit by the Wombat Bush Poets - the whole program was very entertaining, informative and inclusive. We cannot thank them enough for including our school.  We thank their sponsors for allowing them the finances to visit us.

Sport

We had a fantastic Touch Football and Netball carnival.  The students absolutely loved the opportunity to play with their friends and they battled through very difficult conditions. We cannot thank the many teachers, administration staff, support staff and parents enough for their tireless efforts organising the day.  Thank you!

English

All of the children have been focusing on the text 'The Stone Lion' by Margaret Wild and completing writing assessments based on the text. We are working hard to develop our understanding of messages in stories and then forming our own viewpoints. The writing has been very interesting to read!

Maths

The 5/6 class have finished a unit on co-ordinates and mapping  and have now begun a new unit on mean/median/mode/range and chance & probability. This has been a really fun unit of work, as there are plenty of games to be played involving chance and probability. As always, everything has its base in times numbers and number knowledge, so we HAVE to know our times tables off by heart!

2020 School Captains

Our year 5 students that have nominated for School Captain had their interviews with Mr Jones and Mr Stuart on Tuesday afternoon. They were all exceptional candidates and we have no doubt that they will be valued leaders in our school next year. The School Captain's Speeches Assembly is next Thursday 14th November at 11:45am, and all parents and friends are welcome to attend. We hope to have the announcement of School Captains out to the community by the end of next week.

We hope you all have a safe, happy and healthy weekend. As always, please come and see your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns about anything school-related.

Grandparents & Special Friends Day

Grandparents and Special Friends Day is next Wednesday 13th November. We are looking forward to welcoming many Grandparents and special older friends into our school. The day will begin at 1:00pm with classroom visits with all classes having some special activities organised to do with their visitors. Guests will be greeted at our school gate and shown to classrooms by our Year 6 leaders. We will have afternoon tea under the tree in the area between the Primary and Infants classrooms (weather permitting) at 1:30pm. Followed by a celebratory assembly in the Hall at 2:00pm. If you have not already emailed a photo of you child and their grandparents to the school for our powerpoint, which we will show on the day, you are still welcome to  email or send in a photo with your child.

School Swimming Scheme

Notes will be coming out inviting students to participate in our intensive School Swimming Scheme. This runs for 10 days and is focused on Year 2 students who cannot swim 25m without an aid or assistance. Students from higher grades may be included if spaces are available.

Teachers will use their best judgement based on swimming proficiency earlier in the year to allocate places. If you child receives an invitation to participate and can now swim 25m independently please notify us so we can offer the spot to another child.

Kindy Start

Last week we had our second morning with our Kindergarten 2020 students. We had a lovely morning reading a story about an unlikely princess and an even more unlikely dragon. We used puppets to act out the story and then made crowns to take home.

We practiced rotating around activities and other school routines. Everyone is doing a fabulous job settling in and finding out about big school.

We are all looking forward to seeing our Kindy Start children return this week. We have an outdoor expedition planned to find hungry caterpillars and bugs in the gardens.
