STEM

In the lead up to the EXPO@BCS in week 9, Stage 5 Stem have been working away for the last two terms on a major project of their choice. It has been an exciting and challenging time for the students whom have used the design process to design, make and redesign their project. The students have had to use problem solving skills and be very industrious to achieve their goals on small budgets. It  has been a great journey and the students are looking forward to showing them off at the EXPO.

The students are completing the  following projects:-

Malcolm - Small house design made out of shipping containers

Abbie - 3D Printed Puzzles

Cheyenne - Wind powered water pump

Jacob - Electronic line sensor for a squash court

James - Wind powered phone charger

Maddie - Water filter made out of storage tubs

Hannah - Automatic watering  system for pot plants

Hayden - 3D Printed fishing lures

Ben - Water filter made from buckets

Josh - Aquaponic/Fishtank System

Shearing our Flock

The Stage 5 Agriculture class were lucky to have Andrew Ford of Ford's Shearing Contractors come to the Agriculture plot to help shear our flock and teach the students about shearing sheep and classing wool.  Andrew who is a current parent of the school and an ex-student gave a great demonstration and talk on the trade and tips for students maybe looking to get into the profession. We are very thankful for Andrew giving up his time to help the school and also teach our students some valuable life skills.

Melbourne Cup Catering

A small band of very busy helpers from Hospitality and Food Technology assisted at the Hospital Auxiliary Melbourne Cup Luncheon this week..

Fleur, Mackella, Tia, Rachael, Malcolm and Marnie worked non-stop for 6 hours to ensure the smooth service of lunch and dessert to 80+ guests at the Boorowa Ex-services Club. It is a great opportunity for the students to work under time constraints and with a range of customers.

As always, they represented the school extremely well.

Stage 4 Tech Update

Over the past term students have been learning about computer networks, binary, programming and algorithms. This has involved some very intense and exciting lessons for us all. They have been learning how to add binary numbers like: 00110011 (=51) and what is involved with computer programming. We have even written some very difficult algorithms - lessons that have caused groans of despair and cheers of success, sometimes all from the same students!

Soon we will be moving onto sustainable housing using the educational version of Minecraft. I am sure we'll have just as much fun with that as well.
