Term 3 Week 8 2022 - Friday 2nd August
What have we been up to?
And just like that there are 2 weeks to go! Where has this term gone! We have had a busy fortnight with House Athletics, Book Week and Father’s Day preparations! Week 8 was also Teacher’s Aide Appreciation Week. The 1/2 team would love to thank and send out a massive virtual round of applause to Ms Shelli, Jacqui and Ms K for everything they do for us each day! Our classrooms would not be what they are without them!
In Reading, students have been using high quality picture story books to explore many aspects of reading. Through the texts students have built their comprehension strategies, developed their knowledge of language features and made connections between themselves, their world and the text. They have learnt How to Babysit a Grandma and How to Babysit a Grandpa and even make Wombat Stew. These procedures have also helped them in writing because they have been able to explore their structures and language features that make a procedure text. In Maths the students have been investigating Money. They have learnt about values of coins and notes, combining money to make values and begun to give change. They even held their own mini market where they could practise using money and giving change. In Inquiry and Science, students have enjoyed fun-filled lessons where students have been investigating how to make balanced choices and what happens when different substances are mixed together through a number of science experiments.
Here are some photo highlights from the fortnight that was!

What is coming up?
Reading & Writing
In Reading over the next two weeks students will revise their decoding and comprehension strategies and practise using them in independent and group reading sessions. In Writing they will continue looking at Procedure Texts and use their new knowledge to write one as a class then have a go independently!

This fortnight in Maths students will be 2D and 3D shapes. They will explore their features and what distinguished one shape from another. They will have a go at sorting, labelling and creating their own shape patterns. They will also begin to look at chance and discuss key vocabulary they need to describe chance and probability.

Over the coming weeks students will be summarising and reflecting on their learning for the term. They will look back at the topics they covered and what they have learnt about mixtures and balanced choices.
