R U Ok Day
Hi Students,
On the 9th of September (next Friday), we will be having a sports day, free dress day. So come dressed up in the jersey of your favourite sports team and showcase your team spirit. It can be your favourite footy team, your favourite netball team or another sporting team.
There will be a gold coin donation for this free dress day, with all proceedings going towards the R U OK foundation.
With next week involving R U OK day, we felt that this was an appropriate charity to link our free dress day too, especially with the strides that have been made when it comes to sports and mental health.
The R U OK? Foundation was founded in 2009 with the goal of trying to raise awareness and change behaviour regarding mental health by simply asking someone, “Are you ok?”. Its goal is to inspire and empower people to connect with their friends and family and to check in with them to understand how they are going in life.
The link below goes directly to their website, where you can find more information regarding R U OK’s vision and story.

Body Kind Month
In the final week of Term 3, Doncaster Secondary College, will join hundreds of organisations around Australia and participate in Body Kind Month to promote positive body image for our students.
Body Kind Month is about promoting young people to:
- Be Kind to their body - in the language they use, how they nourish and move their body
- Be Kind to others - Online and face to face; and
- Celebrate and respect the differences and diversity in their own body and others.
Through activities run by the Wellbeing team, and educating students and their teachers, this aims to use strength-based initiatives to support our school community to raise awareness about body image.
The home is also an important place to foster positive attitudes and behaviours around body, appearance, food and movement. We are encouraging families to get-on-board and have these important conversations at home.
We have provided a Body Positive Conversation Toolkit with some prompts to guide the conversation with your young person(s). We want the conversation to be positive and promote acceptance, self-confidence and self-love. When guiding these conversations, keep an open mind, experiment and find out what works for you and your family.
