Around the Classrooms

Foundation

Foundation students will be participating in a range of activities this week to support their understanding of measurement. To help them with their learning, we have invited their favourite teddy to classes for the week! We will be using our furry friends to measure how tall they are and compare their mass with other teddies in the class. So far students have explored length with pictures of fish, explored mass with ‘Who Sank the Boat’ and capacity by investigating how much different containers can hold.

In Literacy, students have continued learning about long vowel sounds such as /oa/ in words such as goat, boat and float! We have also been reading the Hare and the Tortoise, sequencing the events that happen in the beginning, middle and end.

Congratulations to our Award Recipients from Week 7!

Year 1 and 2

The 1/2’s had a great day on Friday for Book Week 2022.   The theme for Book Week 2022 was, Dreaming With Eyes Open

We think costumes were great and there was obviously a lot of effort put into these.  What made it even more fantastic was that all students costumes were linked to a character from a book they have read or enjoyed listening to.  Well done students (and well done parents, as we know this is not possible without your support)!

Literacy Learning

We are now approaching the end of our Ancient Egypt unit and are busily working towards our culminating task..  Keep an eye out for our Ancient Worlds website which will include learning from Mesopotamia as well as Ancient Egypt.  This will be released in Week 10.

Numeracy Learning

Students have now complete their Multiplication and Division unit and will be focusing on Time.  Students need to learn both analogue and digital time to the hour, half past, quarter to and quarter past.  It would be great if you could quiz your child on the time during the week on spontaneous occasions!

Year 3 and 4

Preparation for Camp!

Students in Grade 3/4 have been preparing for an exciting (and nerve-wracking!) time of year... Camp! Over the last week, students have looked more closely at Camp Wyuna, what to expect, brainstorming worries, concerns and excitements and creating a list of questions we have! Both classes have been working our way through these lists so that we can feel prepared and calm for camp in early Term 4. Check out some examples here!

Year 5 and 6

Literacy

The Grade 4/5/6 students finished reading Ming and Flo Fight for the Future and completed a book report, concluding their opinion on the text, see some work samples below. We even had a Flo at Book Week dress up! We are now exploring poetry and the students have been studying the features of different poems and how to apply poetic devices into their writing, including anaphora and sincere/insincere language.

Numeracy

In Maths, the 4/5/6 students have been learning about Angles. They have been investigating the different types of angles, angles in triangles and quadrilaterals and measuring the degrees of these angles with protractors. In the task below they had to find angels in the classroom, label what type of angel it is and measure/label the degrees with a protractor.
