Acting Principal's Message

Diverse ~ Accepting ~ Inclusive Community

Dear Parents, Families and Friends,

Our Outdoor Education expeditions concluded last week with the Stage 2 Larapinta Trail trek. Dave Atkins and Emma Shearer have put countless hours into this program over Terms 2 & 3 together with numerous staff who accompanied the students on their adventures. I want to congratulate and thank everyone for their participation in this unique program.

Last Friday, we had a highly competitive Athletics Carnival on Head Street oval. This was ably organised and led by Jake Butler with the invaluable assistance of Davey Tudor, Richard Worrall, Jackie Gallagher and Dom Nahon. Every student participated in a run, jump, and throw event, and the house spirit and enthusiasm was evident throughout the day. There were many school records broken by our talented athletes. Thanks to staff and students who made the day wonderful.

The Year 11 Subject Information Night was well attended on Tuesday night, and this is followed up in Week 7 with an advice afternoon for students and parents who want more specific subject information. Thanks to Steve Kimber and Tracy Hurst for hosting this event.

The highlight of the week was the induction of some of our new Year 11 leaders and the farewell of the Year 12 leaders who have given us a year of service. For me, it is always a bittersweet moment and a chance to reflect on the growth and development of our student body. I applaud the students who take on the challenges of leadership and service. Many of our events at the College are reliant on capable student leaders and their participation is an integral part of our culture. We still have quite a few Year 11s working towards meeting the requirements and we will have more inductions in the future.

Our Round Square committee participated in a Zoom Postcard, call with students and staff from other Round Square schools around the world joining in mostly from India and South Africa. The theme was Adventure in the Centre, and we championed our Adventure pillar here at St Philip’s.

Thanks to staff, Vicki Hutchinson and Sandi Crogan for helping to organise the event and prepare our students. A special thank you to our students who represented the College so admirably, Charlotte Murphy, Eliza Schmidt, Iris Chenhall, Lilly Bloomer, Nic Boffa, Evie Holzman, Naomi Van Den Berghe, Kailen Love, Hamish Materne and Jordy Humphries. It’s looking very promising for Round Square conferences and exchanges over the next term and for 2023.

We’re halfway through the term already and most students are busy with various assessments and homework. I encourage parents to use Schoolbox to assist their students to manage their time and to find a balance with their other activities.

Kind regards,
