Enrolments for 2023

If you have a child, or know of someone who has a child to enrol in Prep for 2023, please see Ana for an enrolment form, go to the office at Buninyong or access an enrolment form via our school website. We are excited that in line with the current Department of Education guidelines we are able to provide our Pre-Schooler Program during the fourth term as part of our enrolment process. Once you have returned your enrolment form, you will be sent further information to book your child into the Pre-Schooler Program. Please see Ana if you require further information.

Book Week

Buninyong/ Scotsburn Book Bonanza – ‘Give a book, take a book’

Book Week is nearly here and the excitement is mounting! We are going to hold a whole campus book swap. This means that we are asking all students to donate a book (or more if you would like) from home they have read, no longer want but know that someone else would enjoy that book. It’s a wonderful process that all students will enjoy. Everyone gets to go home with a book and it is really good for our environment as we recycle a book. Books should be in good condition. If you have more than one book that your child is willing to donate, please send them in for spares. Books can be handed into your child’s teacher.

On the day of the swap, teachers will put out all the books that have been donated and students will get the chance to browse and choose a book to take home and keep. Everyone will go home with a book! If you have any questions, please contact Ana via email – Anastasia.anderson@education.vic.gov.au

Scotsburn Campus also has a special guest appearance next week for Book Week. It is with great excitement that we welcome author, Deborah Goldie. SC3 have recently completed Deb’s novel Test of Wills. We look forward to meeting Deb next Monday.

Please see the whole school newsletter for all the information around book week. There is so much fun and excitement happening!

Eggs for sale

1 Dozen $6 or ½ dozen $3

We are thrilled to announce that the girls have finally paid for their first bag of seed! THANK YOU!

If you would like to buy  fresh free range eggs from Scotsburn please see Dani in SC2.

Buninyong Primary School Disco

A reminder that the school disco is this Friday 19th August. If your child is interested in attending, please check Compass for the opt-in event to sign your child up!

Mask Wearing

You may have heard recently that the Department of Education has updated their advice on mask wearing in schools. The expectation is that all students (aged 8 and over) wear a mask while inside at school, until the end of Winter. We do have a small supply of disposable masks at school, however we do as that you send a mask with your child each day.

Spare Clothes

During these winter months we know that at times students can slip over and get muddy and wet at Scotsburn. We usually have a good supply of spare clothes for these circumstances, however our stocks are currently running very low!

If your child has borrowed a piece of clothing recently and it has not been returned, could it please be washed and returned so that it can be ready for the next student requiring a spare change of clothes.

It is also a good idea over this wet period to put a spare pair of pants in your child’s bag just in case.

Ecolink Outreach Incursion

This Friday 19th August, all Scotsburn classes will be participating in an incursion run by Ecolink. SC1 will be participating in the program ‘Frogs Up Close’, SC2 ‘Indigenous Food and Fibre’ and SC3 ‘Sphero Design Challenge’. There will be no cost to this incursion.

Historical Society

A big thank you to Fiona from the Buninyong Historical Society who came in and spoke to all our students last Friday around the ‘Covid Reflection Book’  we are putting together as a campus for the Buninyong Historical Society. Fiona spoke to the students about the importance of documenting and capturing significant moments in time and how we can reflect on these in the future. We are very excited to be working with the Buninyong Historical Society and look forward to sharing our reflections with everyone.

Respectful Relationships - Family Groups Session

Last Friday we commenced our first Family Group session for the Term. Our Respectful Relationships group was focussing on coping strategies, how we deal with conflict, as well as ways to regulate our emotions. After a short interactive lesson, students worked together to play small games, where they were required to agree on rules and play while demonstrating regulation strategies.

Students had a great time while also developing these strategies.

Lunchtime Activities

With the cold and wet weather setting in, we have been providing more options for students during lunch breaks. On top of our daily Lunchtime Club in the shed, we now have been running Bay Blade Club on Tuesday and Friday, and Minecraft Club on Thursday. The senior students have done a magnificent job setting these clubs up and running them, and it is great to see students across all year levels playing so well together.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

SC1 have been working tirelessly on their non-fiction texts. Last week we started working on our digital texts. We are very excited to share these with you on our Celebration of Learning night. If anyone has any shoe boxes or small boxes at home they no longer need, please send them in as we are needing them to make dioramas.

In Maths, we are learning about time. We have been looking at time to the hour (o’clock), half hour and extending into quarter past and quarter to. Making a connection between and knowing the features of an analogue and digital clock is also a big focus. It is fantastic to share ‘time’ at home with children and talk about what time things happen during the day such as what time they leave for school, eat tea and go to bed.

Our Respectful Relationship focus the last few weeks has been around emotions - building up our coping strategies to deal with emotions, managing our emotions and what strategies we can use to calm our emotions. It has been wonderful to see students refer back to these lessons and discussions when faced with challenges.

Make sure you check out the whole school newsletter for this week's BPS Author in Focus. We have some special ‘100 Days of Learning’ writing pieces showcased!

Thanks,

Ana

 SC2 Learning Snapshot

In SC2 this week during maths, students were collecting and sorting data. The students made a human bar graph and a pie chart to represent their favourite snack. They then sorted their favourite snack by colour and created individual bar graphs using their data.

Students have continued their Information reports this week, focussing on creating an introduction and revising their writing on a neighbouring country. These are beginning to come together nicely.

This week’s inquiry saw students researching Timor Leste then  putting their knowledge into action as they used an atlas and a globe to locate and label all our neighbouring countries on a map.

Whilst in Respectful Relationships students continued to look at different coping strategies when ‘missing out’ whilst playing the ‘anyone who likes’ game, assisting students to recognise and respect diversity.

Thanks,

Dani

SC3 Learning Snapshot

Over the past week, SC3 have been working feverishly to complete some important units of work. In Reading, we completed our class novel “Test of Wills” and we are now super excited for the author, Deborah Goldie, to visit next week. It was a real cliffhanger ending to the book, and the students loved both making connections and inferences while listening to the text.

In Maths, we put the finishing touches on our Fractions work and have now begun working on decimals. We completed a pre-test and used our Proficiency Scales to determine the areas that we were confident in, as well as the areas that we needed to focus on. I have loved seeing SC3 really take ownership of their learning this term!

This week, we are also spending some time doing some pre-work for our Ecolink incursion on Friday. Our task in SC3 is to research an Australian Animal in pairs, ready for a Sphero Design Challenge on Friday. How cool!!!

Have another great week everyone!

Specialist News

Tomorrow (Wednesday 17th), Scotsburn is lucky enough to have some Japanese visitors coming to the campus on Wednesday afternoon. It might be a great idea for families to chat tonight about any questions you would like to ask our visitors. I’m sure they would love to tell us all about their lives in Japan!

Glow Garden Update

Our work on this is coming together brilliantly. If you happen to have any empty soda water/soft drink bottles, please bring them in! Also, if we could please receive a few donations of full bottles of tonic water, that would be brilliant (as it glows in the dark!)

We can’t wait to show you these amazing installations!
