Budja:

It was a very busy week with our Budja class, with further exploration of space- learning about the space shuttle, how it launches into space with boosters and how it is able to glide back to earth.

We made 'boosters' using empty bottles, taping elastic and red crepe paper to the bottles and we wore them as jet packs. The children worked with such enthusiasm as they created these and then role-played being in space and being astronauts!

We started planning for Father's Day/Special Person's Day this week also, the children have begun to make something special as well as choosing the songs to sing for our concert. I think it's going to blow the roof off the hall if the practice is anything to go by!

We are looking forward to Book Week this Friday, come dressed as a character or theme and we will celebrate together.

Marram:

This week was National Science Week. We discussed some BIG concepts - 'What is science?' and ‘What is an experiment?’ ‘Do we know what the result of an experiment is going to be before we start?’ ‘What is a hypothesis?’ It was great to get an idea of children’s prior knowledge before embarking on new learning, which included conducting a ‘mouldy bread’ experiment, and touching on environmental science and how to save more of our precious trees. Science Week ended with a fantastic turn out for our Kinder and Foundation Science Night! Next week we will be dressing up for Book Week but we decided to get into the spirit early by trying on lots of fancy dress costumes!

Gawarn:

Last week was National Science Week. The children explored Science by reading two books called "Mr Archimede's bath" and "Alexander's outing". The books were used to support the children to investigate water capacity, and  why Mr Archimedes' bath kept overflowing when he got in, and wonder why ducks can float on  water. The children discussed their predictions and explored the ideas of sinking and floating. The children also showed great enthusiasm in presenting their ideas in different media systems while manipulating various tools to solve problems in the art area. Our language teacher Christina also engaged with the children by making animal cookies to support learning animal names in Mandarin.

We are excited to look forward to book week next week to dress up as our favourite characters!

Wimbi and Dharug:

We had a great week with lots of learning and engagement. The routine was very smooth, transitioning indoor and outdoor play. We have been developing children's awareness of healthy eating and good nutrition. We always have lots of conversations about healthy eating during meal time. This week the children were offered to read a book called "I can eat a rainbow" and help to sort the healthy foods and sometimes foods on the mat. During meal times, the children showed each other how many colours they had in their meal boxes. Eating is an essential part of life. Developing good food habits in early childhood encourages a positive attitude towards enjoying a healthy diet and lifestyle later in life.
