Halo semuanya - hello everyone!

In such a short week last week, it was amazing to see the committment from our school community to get involved in so many events. The atmosphere at Science Night was phenomenal! Not to mention the sea of red and white we saw on Indonesian Day, bagus sekali! Thank you for your support and involvement in these celebrations, it makes all the hard work worthwhile!

In Literacy, we continue our Writing to Entertain focus through story writing this week. Last week, students wrote stories about 'Little Mrs Streitberger' and created their own books with a beginning, middle and end. This week, students will create another story using models they made to represent animals or creatures that live under a bridge. We look forward to students choosing the work that they are most proud of to share with their buddy in our Book Week celebrations. Shortlisted books like When the Waterhole Dries Up, Amira's Suitcase and the CBCA Book of the Year Winner Jetty Jumping will be the inspiration for our work in Reading and Maths this week! It would be a great idea to keep using the language of 'beginning, middle, end' and 'problem and solution' at home when you read books together!

Students have begun learning strategies to solve subtraction problems in maths. One strategy we have recently introduced is a number line. This week, students will continue to 'count back' and explore different ways to record their thinking when solving subtraction problems. We will also revisit probability later in the week as we introduce the key words 'certain' and 'impossible'. This could be something you might like to discuss at home when you talk about the weather or other everyday things like what you might have for dinner.

Outside of our Literacy and Numeracy curriculums, students build on their knowledge through our Play-Base Learning sessions. In these sessions, students participate in a range of activities based on their ideas and interests, and practise communicating clearly. We also continue to challenge gender stereotypes though our Respectful Relationships program by sharing the colours, foods and activities we like. We will also talk about different occupations and the idea that anyone is allowed to do any job they like! This week students will also be attending their Healthy Harold incursion with a focus around 'Friendships'.

We look forward to seeing everyone dressed up for our Book Week celebrations on Thursday!

  • Jerome T - "Mrs Streitberger saw a wonderful flower, and guess what colour it is - yellow!"
