Foundation-1

Bienvenidos todos!!!

The F1 team warmly welcomes all students, parents and new teachers. It has been such a delight to see the school grounds and classrooms full of new and returning faces. We look forward to getting to know everyone over the coming year. Daisy, Sophia, Sergio and Jacqui would also like to warmly welcome Paula, Roberto, Ange and Georgia. The team has already hit the ground running and are so excited to make this the best year yet!

Welcome Foundation Learners and Welcome back Grade 1s!

On Friday last week, Foundation students had their very first day of school. The Grade 1s have shown great care and responsibility by helping the new Foundation students around the classroom and outside in the playground. They acted as great role models by demonstrating the 5Ls of listening and sharing their knowledge about school and how to be good Learners. In our classrooms, we have enjoyed using games and collaborative activities to get to know each other. Together, we are beginning to learn the routines of school and explore the Newlands Keystones and Values.

Things to Know

Take-Home Readers: It has also been exciting for F1 learners to start bringing home Take Home Readers! Each day, students will bring home one English and one Spanish book to practice the new sounds we will learn in The Code and other strategies we explore during Reading. Parents received a notice in their child's book bag outlining the Newlands reading program and strategies to support your student with their take-home readers.

Student Representative Council Speeches

On Friday next week, Year 1 students will have the opportunity to deliver a short speech in class if they would like to run for SRC.  SRC provides opportunities for students to exercise their student voice, represent their peers and play a role in decisions made at the school. Following the speeches, their classmates will vote on who they would like to represent them. This opportunity is only available for students in grade 1 to 6.
