From the Wellbeing Team

February 2022

Welcome back for a new year – probably something you have heard a few times already in 2022.  Whether this is the first time or 10th time that someone here at NBC has welcomed you and your family back for another year, we are genuinely excited to be back with you!

Did you set any “new year resolution’s” this year?  More importantly, have you held strong and stayed committed to your new year resolution?  Setting big goals on December 31st can be a great thing - it can help motivate you or break the cycle of a long-term habit.  But setting big goals can also lead to disappointment - by January 4th you might be craving a sweet treat, or exercising each morning might be getting a bit too much.  I hope that you don’t stop setting new year resolutions, but remember to stay realistic, and don’t worry if you can’t keep it up until July or November.  Perhaps focus on regularly setting small goals that only last a couple of weeks or months, that is exactly what we do here at NBC to support students to achieve their potential.

Over the summer break, our College Wellbeing Team has expanded with new staff joining our team – and what that means, is that we have an exciting line-up of activities, groups, and programs at each of our campuses.  Here are some of the activities and groups that we will be running across our campuses:

  • Brilliant brain breaks – developing successful brain breaks to succeed at NBC.
  • Zones of Regulation – building our understanding of the different Zones of Regulation.
  • Respectful Relationships – developing students’ social, emotional and positive relationship skills
  • Drumbeat - structured learning program using music, psychology, and neurobiology to reconnect with ourselves and others.
  • Secret Agent Society – solving the mystery of social encounters, and
  • Many more engaged play activities at recess and lunch.

If you are interested in any of these groups or would like to find out what else is happening on your campus this term – speak to your Campus Wellbeing Team.
