February 2022
After another interrupted year in 2021 it was fantastic to see our 2022 preps begin their schooling journey this week across the four junior campuses. There were many smiling faces and a few tears from both kids and parents as the children got to know their new classmates, teachers and the environment they will be learning in.
The first few weeks of school are all about getting the children settled in and used to being at school by teaching them the routines of the classroom.
Each Wednesday until after the labour day weekend on the March 14, the prep students will not come to school as normal, they will instead be given a special individual time to come in and spend some time with their teacher. This time is used for the teachers to get to know the children in a 1:1 setting as well as to do some initial testing to support the learning that is planned for the students based on their individual needs.
It was also great to welcome back our Year 1-2’s from the holiday break with equally as much excitement from them about being back to school. Over the first few weeks, the Starting Right program has been running to set expectations and routines for the children and get them used to being back at school learning. With a mix of fun social activities and explicit instruction in being a good reader, writer and mathematician happening, a really positive start has been seen by teachers across the campuses.
