PE News

Welcome back to Physical Education in 2022!  We have literally hit the ground running in all learning areas:

What are we learning in Physical Education this term??

Prep have started their year with Perceptual Motor Skills practice, that is isolated practice at stations of running, jumping, throwing, hopping, skipping, kicking and balancing.  We are also learning to follow instructions, working out our spatial awareness and taking turns. JLA students have started with a similar program as a refresher for the year before starting a “minor games” unit that includes putting all basic motor skills together with strategy in small game settings.

MLA and SLA are working on their hand-eye coordination skills, to work into various games, sports and activities as their skills progress.  We have made a list in our first lesson of all of the activities, games and sports that require hand-eye coordination, leaving the door open to try any possibilities that may come our way in the near future.  Students in the older grades are also working on building up their cardiovascular endurance at the start of each lesson with a “5 minute run” for warm up.  Not only does this improve our basic fitness, but it teaches students how to create a strategy to be successful in achieving a goal at your own pace.

Please feel free to practice any of the skills that you have learnt in PE at home during the week – they will be valuable not only for each lesson but for various areas throughout your life!

As a friendly reminder, if your student has a minor injury or mild illness that may limit their participation in PE on any given day, could I please ask that you send a note with your child outlining what it is that they are unable to do for their lesson.  With information from you, I am made aware that you know of your child’s limitations for the day and that I am able to tailor modifications to the lesson for your child where possible to get the best out of their learning.

Be on the look out for this exciting activity in the next few weeks…

We have been very fortunate to have secured some futsal (indoor soccer) clinics in the next few weeks!  Prep and JLA will be required to wear their PE uniforms on Friday 11th and 18th March, and MLA and SLA will have their clinic days on Friday 25th March and 1st April.

If you are already interested in signing up to join Futsal Oz, our closest center is Thomastown! See the flyers attached below in our newsletter to find out more information!
