Library News

Welcome back to another wonderful year of reading!

Many students have located their lost or missing library books over the holidays and have returned items to school. It is never too late to return them!  If any student has outstanding loans please write a quick note or come and see me as soon as possible. Student overdue lists were given to teachers at the beginning of the year.

Please also have a look at home for any other resources that were borrowed from classroom libraries, including year level readers. All school resources can be placed in the ‘Book Returns’ trolley in the 21st Century Learning Space.

Scholastic Book Club

Welcome back to Book Club! There are eight scholastic Book Clubs per year (two per term). Every dollar spent entitles the school to earn “Scholastic Reading Rewards,” which are then redeemed to obtain books and resources for the school. Book Club Issue 1 is in process and orders should arrive for distribution next week.

Please direct all Scholastic Book Club, and any book or library related questions to me during the following hours:

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 8.30 – 3.30pm;

Thursday and Friday 1.30 - 3.30pm

or email: www.rowville.ps@education.vic.gov.au

Book Bags

I encourage all students to have a named library book bag.  It’s a lot harder to lose your library books if they are kept in a named library bag. I have a few spare library bags if anyone would like one please come and see me.

Back To School Reading with David Walliams

There’s a Snake In The School by David Walliams

Thank goodness we don’t have snakes at school here! The summary for this picture book says, “Miranda loves to be different, and on Bring-your-pet-to-school Day she introduces everyone to her very different pet, Penelope the snake. Miss Bloat, the headmistress, doesn't think snakes should be allowed in school. But Penelope has other ideas.”

The World’s Worst Teachers by David Walliams

I admire David Walliams wonderfully engaging humour and lots of crazy antics in his stories. I am not alone, millions of young readers are enjoying his books. The World’s Worst Children had tales which introduced us to some truly awful young people and now it’s the World’s Worst Teachers and World’s Worst Parents! Lucky for us we have wonderful teachers at Rowville Primary School, not at all like the dreadful teachers depicted in this novel. Even the teachers names are awful – Miss Seethe, Miss Conceit, Doctor Dread, Miss Palaver, Mrs Splatt and Mr Phobe. You will have to read the book to discover more about them!

Enjoy your reading
