Embracing Traditional Indigenous Games

In the Junior School's Physical Education program, our focus for this term is celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Australia. Students are currently engaged in learning about Traditional Indigenous Games, immersing themselves in the history and significance of these traditional pastimes. Through this exploration, our young athletes are gaining a deeper understanding of how these games differ from the modern sports we play today, as well as identifying the common threads that connect us through time. By delving into the roots of these Indigenous games, our students are not only developing physical skills but also fostering cultural appreciation and respect.

Around the Grounds: Soccer Highlights

I’ve been lucky enough to get around to all of the Junior School soccer matches over the past few weeks. Here are a few highlights.

Excitement and passion filled the air as KWS Strikers took to Bernie Stedman Field on Friday 21 July. The match proved to be a resounding success for our team, with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Orange ex-services. Lachlan Turnbull's outstanding goalkeeping skills ensured a clean sheet for the Strikers, while Andrew Bell’s impressive shooting secured the well-deserved win. The team's dedication and teamwork were on full display, leaving spectators in awe of their performance.

On Saturday 22 July, KWS Jets faced a challenging game against Millthorpe. Despite the tough loss, the Jets' new addition, Jock Morgan, showcased incredible skill and nearly broke through the opposition's defence multiple times, only to be denied by the opposing goalkeeper. The team's unwavering spirit and camaraderie were commendable, leaving supporters eager to witness their continued improvement in future matches. We're confident that the Jets will soar to new heights!

KWS United's match on Saturday 22 July started strong with an impressive 2-2 score heading into halftime, thanks to an Alex Coleman goal. Although the opposition gained momentum and took the game away in the second half, KWS United displayed incredible resilience throughout the game. Their determination and tenacity were a testament to their character and sportsmanship.

The KWS Roar displayed an outstanding performance on the field at PLC on Saturday 28 July, exhibiting excellent sportsmanship and unwavering effort. The team's well-drilled approach was evident as they executed their skills with precision and coordinated teamwork. The Roar's commitment to fair play and the spirit of the game was impressive, well done!
