2023 Commonwealth Bank Teaching Awards presented by Schools Plus

The 2023 Teaching Awards attracted hundreds of applications from teachers and school leaders across all sectors from around Australia. Our school would like to congratulate Jo Beatty who has won a seat as one of the ‘Top 50’ teachers and leaders in Australia! This is an achievement! Jo can be justly proud of amongst hundreds of great teachers who applied for the Awards. Thank you for helping to shine a spotlight on the wonderful work of teachers and for your dedication to making a difference to the lives of our students and our school community.

2023 School Opinion Survey

The suite of School Opinion Surveys (SOS) are undertaken each year by State Schools Division to obtain opinions about schools from parents/caregivers, students and school staff. The surveys will help identify what we are doing well and understand where we can improve. This year's School Opinion Surveys will be officially open from 24 July to 18 August 2023. SOS will be distributed directly to students and parents using OneSchool emails. Please contact Judy to ensure your email addresses are up to date.

An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey will be emailed to one parent/caregiver per family in the week beginning 17 July.  The survey is anonymous, and the results are not reported in ways that an individual’s response can be identified by the school.

The invitation will be sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2023.  Check your junk email folders if you can’t find it.  The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using computers, tablets or smart phones with internet connection. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve.

For Parents/Caregivers who do not have access to the internet school computers/tablets will be available. Parents/caregivers who experience difficulties accessing the survey can request a new survey from the School Opinion Survey team via email schoolopinionsurvey@qed.qld.gov.au.

If you can’t find your invitation, please check that they haven’t received the invitation and/or check your junk email folder.

Mobile Phones

In the last week of the holidays, the Minister announced the intention to implement a ban on mobile phone use in Queensland schools from the start of next year. This ban is also to extend to certain wearable mobile devices, such as smart watches, and includes the non-use of phones during break times.  The Minister recognised that almost 95 per cent of schools already have policies restricting access to mobile phones and other devices. Consequently, the department is currently developing materials for schools to support their review of existing mobile phone policies.

Our school policy is that students to hand in mobile phones to the classroom teacher at the start of the day which will be returned at the end of the day. If students do not comply with this expectation, then families are contacted in which case mobiles phones are not allowed back at school.

Have a wonderful week ahead everybody.

Kind regards,

Dehlia Dawson
